I am getting conflicting answers from the internet. Can you hook your 3g android phone into your laptop for internet use? I need to have wireless internet service while at the track in Bowling Green. I have a 3g Android LG Ally phone. ANyone familiar with doing this without having to pay for another servoce from Verizon?

It's called tethering and you should be able to do it. Who's your carrier? My cousin tethers his daily.

Yes look up tethering in the market and download the app. There is one that let's you do for free. Go to droidforums.net and it has a wealth of information on the subject

You probably have to root the phone first, it just depends on if the carrier has the function locked out from the factory or not.

if it is a verizon phone you download the pdanet app. then use bluetooth to hook up to your computer if it has bluetooth enabled. we have two of the same phones. im told you can be charged for it though. i dont think we have yet

According to the forums it will just show up as cellphone internet usage, which I already pay for. I can use the phone on its own for the same thing its just more convenient to type and view on a laptop. I am using the PDAnet software right now, works great so far.

If you are running Android 2.2 your tethering is built right in - go to "Settings" - "Wireless & Access" - "Tethering"
