So I've been a fan of early Cobra's (1979 thru 1981) ever since I saw one in person. Recently I found an 80 cobra on craigslist that looks to be a decent deal. The kicker is that it is a Capri, which is cool cuz I like they're fender flares. Well after a little reading around I can't find ANYTHING about Capri Cobra's, not even in factory Capri brochures of those years. So besides going to check the car out in person what else can be determined about it? Heres (http://cincinnati.craigslist.org/cto/1941844323.html) the add.

Hmmm....2 possibilities come to mind.

1) it has a Mustang nose/hood/hatch that either had the Cobra decals on them already or were put on it

2) it's a Mexico car because down there they had some crazy Mustang/Capri hybrids...all the body panels got mixed around and thrown together like that.

I'm gonna say it's a Capri that has some mismatched body parts on it. I've never heard of or seen another Capri Cobra.

It says its 1980 so short of seeing the title that's all I have to go on. I was looking at Mexican mustangs too n those sure are interesting! Its starting to look like its a Capri with Cobra parts on it, but I'm tempted to go check out the body tags and title.. On that note, how could one tell if the body tag on said car is a match to that cars VIN and all?

This guy's had it on there forever... He once said that it's truely a capri with the mustang parts on it. Sooo... if it's truely a capri... I wonder how bad some of the body was for it to get switched? Just something to think about. Paint looks too *nice* to be original, so I'm gonna go out on a limb and say it's been painted... especially since the capri parts match the cobra parts. Worst case, just check the VIN numbers. Check the door to see if it matches the dash. Still a neat car and could be worth getting. Last time the guy listed it he threatened to just pull the motor and trans and sell the rest. I didnt read the ad you linked, just saw the pics. Guy kinda sounds lika a d-bag from the ad's he's posted on that thing before....

Edit... just checked the ad again... Notice the 87-93 quarter windows? And if it's a cobra... where's the coveted front air dam? I think it's just a swap with some decals.

I didn't even notice the quarter glass. It also has a piece of '87-93 GT side skirt hanging off the driver's side.

That is peiced together. The 79 Cobra did not have a wing. The 80 Cobra had a cowl hood and a wing, but not the hood scoop . My first car was/is a 79 cobra. Got it in 89 and still in my garage. Either way the early cobra's were only decal kits with no performance behind them. Mine is the 302/c4 combo with a 2 barrel making a steller 132 hp.

I concluded that its was pieced together last night before I went to bed lol. It seems to have 79 cobra front parts and an 80 or 81 hatch/spoiler. I also noticed the aero era quarter windows, I couldn't decide if I liked em on there or not. Stangman, I thought I had seen a similar car on CL around Cincy not that long ago but I just kinda skimmed it n went to the next add. Still could be a cool car with some work..

Definitely has potential. I personally like the '79-82 Mustang noses better than any of the Capri noses, especially with the pace car/GT valance under them. That combined with Capri fenders makes for a ballsy looking car IMO.

Pace car nose + Capri fenders = titties

If I got this car Id get a pace car nose, slam it n throw some BA wheels on it. My buddy has a set of black 10 holes that would look good on it for a while.

FYI, there was just a guy in the wanted section looking for an '85 nose for his coupe, and that car has a '82GT nose on it and the valance is in pretty good shape last i saw it. Also note that the upper part of the nose is different on the valanced noses too...the grill milk crate section is different than the rest of them.

My first brand new car was a black '79 Cobra stick car. Nothing fancy except for the decals, TRX wheel\tire combo (worst things ever in the rain or snow). The '80 model had the cowl hood and rear ducktail spoiler pretty much like the '79 Pace cars used. I have never heard of a Cobra Capri so it's probably a bunch of bunk.

i had a 79 pacecar and a 80 cobra, they didnt use the pacecar airdamn frt end again until the 82gt's.
they had the small hoodscoops on them from 79-84 not sure about the 85-6.
my 85 has one but it was put on.
both had the early style 3piece spoiler, and seen some come without any spoiler.
the rs capri's didnt get the airdam frtend till around 82 also i believe.
i had an 80 rs it had the 3piece soiler on it too.
