had the new camaro ss m-6 out on lunch today(yes i work for a chevy dealer) and a bright red 11 model 5.0 gets beside me on the freeway and wants to play well lets just say the results werent pretty for the camaro anyways from a 60 roll the camaro(me) jumped out front about a length and the 5.0 just walked around it. Talk about a damn sled the weight just kills that car. I know it claims around 425hp and the 5.0 makes 410 but the weight difference must be substantial!

part of it is just like you said. the claims. im not sure about the chevys but from what i have seen online the new 5.0 is underated.

Agreed. Ive seen dyno pulls on that new 5.0 that would support the fact that its making a good amount more than 412.

My chevy buddy told me earlier today the Camaros weigh around 300lbs more than the 5.0.

2011 GT 3605 lb vs. SS 3760. diff of 155 lbs.
2005-2009 GT 3450 lb vs. SS 3760. diff of 310 lbs.

Weight based on manual trans. and coupe.

The 2011 was suppose to have a lighter aluminum V8 block ????? I guess the added weight is in the sound deadening and luxury interior? Someone on here who tested the 2011 said that Ford had to add sound tubes that run between the interior and the engine compartment to create the engine noise heard in a mustang because of all of the sound deadening material in the car.

4 valve heads arent light. im not saying thats all the weight. but imho i dont think the new engine is any lighter than the 4.6. im sure google will provide the answer though. :D

all i know is it felt like a turd, my lx would give it hell from a dig and theres no way its making 350hp much less 426, they need to go back to the drawing board on that one. the powerband just goes flat at 5k and just doesnt pull hard at all, who knows maybe we just got a bad one!

I'd like to see you get a second one out for a test drive as well just to see if the results are repeatable. Granted the likelihood of coming upon a 2011 again is unlikely, but would be interested in knowing if the aceleration was similar to this as well as if the powerband goes flat at 5k as well.

I've seen the Dodge Challenger SRT8 do the very same thing, mainly because of weight. I have seen them make passes at E20 and Tristate in the mid 13's at best in a stock state. Major weight factor. Even worse than the Camaro.

Wonder if the new Dodge Barracuda coming out will have weight issues as well?

well I am at a different lot today and took out an atomic orange ss m6 and it felt like it pulled harder down low but around 5500 it goes flat, id say with some breathing mods it would run a good deal better, but the $ spent on one of these camaros could net you a nice used z06 or termi w/mods and i think the ass dyno would be much happier. I have driven the new 5.0 and i can vouch for its performance, that car did not disappoint at all. I was very impressed with the acceleration and the damn thing pulls like a monster up top for a stock car!

Thanks for the folloe up. Cool. I know the guys at Cincy Speed do a lot of LT's, Cams, and CAI's with tunes on those cars. But like you said, for the same price or less than the stock price you can have a lot more car.

I say the new Challanger SRT8 hooks pretty well but not as fast as I hoped it would be. The best time my buddy had with his was 13.4@105 stock 6 speed. I was pretty identical with him in my 93 oct K&N DSP 04 srt-4 which isn't that powerful of a car (254whp). What's the best time around here have you guys seen the new camaro run stock? The best I've seen is a 13.7@103.

FTW These new 2011 Mustang Gt's move out.
