View Full Version : Have you ever seen a 58 RWHP gain from headers?

Tim brought us a stone stock '08 GT 500 to have a supercharger put on with the only exsisting mod being axle back mufflers We decided on the new Vortech/Lyscholm 3.3 twin screw supercharger. When doing GT 500 aftermarket blower cars they are usually installed with a set of headers. We were slightly disappointed in the power numbers with 640 RWHP at 19#.
The customer brought it back under our recomendation for a performance exhaust. We installed Kooks 1 7/8" headers, 3" catted mid-pipe and the exsisting FRPP mufflers. We threw her back on the dyno and saw the RWHP numbers jump up to 707 RWHP, which is an increase of 58 RWHP and 42 RWTQ! :banghead2
Check out the video and pics of Tim's amazing ride!

Got a before and after dyno/graph? Looks like a good spike at the end, maybe more like 705RWHP or so. Great gains though!

Well that would be a step in the right direction...making sure Adam (slow94gt) is behind the keyboard is the next thing to work on!

if it's any consolation Chris, as soon as I read your thread, I emailed the link to my dad. His '09 GT500 has plenty of mods (installed by you guys) but a stock blower. He was like, "That's Me!!!"
So at least your intended audience will get the point! ;)

We are lucky to have even one shop close. I hear of people having to trailor their cars 4+hrs just to get on a dyno.

Yeah it was very impressive and satisfying to see this new blower put down the power that it should.
The dyno sheet I posted is before and after the exhaust. Yeah I think 705 is about right. I wrote in my first post 707 RWHP, which is what I calculated the gain off of and not the 717 spike.

Must have been a whole family of them.
It actually had the same Ford Racing mufflers on it then, but the rest of the exhaust was stock.

Thats a good gain, I have installed several sets of those exact headers and I recommend them to everyone. Easy installation, perfect fit, great sound and performance.
Now some of the rest of you need:HYF:

Yeah, we were impressed. The car sounded like an animal on the dyno; almost hurt your ears even if you were not in the shop.
Kooks and American Racing are my favorite headers; like you said the fit, finish and quality is second to none.

So was it just the headers or did you do x or H pipe and re tune it?

Technically his engine warranty would be void even with just a pulley on his stock blower. The only aftermarket supercharger that protects the engine warranty is the Ford Racing TVS supercharger and it has to be installed within the first couple months of ownership and I think it's only a 12 month warranty.
You can't go wrong with either the FRPP 3.4 or the Whipple 3.3.

We did the Kooks 1 7/8 headers and matching catted mid-pipe. We did just a couple small tweaks on the tune e.g. turn the heaters up in the O2s and we put it on the dyno to see what the RWHP #s were.

for the price of kooks and exhuast for that car it better pick up a ton of power, how much was the bill on exhaust and installation$ 2,800? good numbers but pricey!

Kooks are expensive, but they are some of the best out there. Nah, pricing including install was under $2K.

Considering it's forced induction and you stepped up to 1 7/8 and 3 inch exhaust, i'm not REAL surprised but that is a pretty damn impressive gain. I guess it's like they say, the faster you can get exhaust out, the faster air can get in, and the more power you're gonna see.

That would explain your complete lack of torque making your car foot brake 1000 less than a stock car with an increased stall converter.

How would it foot brake 1000rpms less than stock? If its doing that something is BROKE

I thinks those numbers are impressive on the cobra. What kind of ET should that car turn out with that kind of power?

Roughly mid 10's @ 132-135mph. Car probably weighs in at about 4k lbs. with the driver.

When torque falls out the stall will change dramatically. For example go unplug a vac line and see what happens. Driving down the road it will feel fine, foot brake will be terrible and so will idle.

Alanwhat? Your talking about torque and comparing it to loss of vacuum? If the brakes hold the car will still foot brake relatively the same

my PTC C4 converter works great, I was talking about my green fox car with a 302 in it. I knocked the muffler off when it was on the dyno and picked up close to 80 rwhp. These power adder cars seem to have some sensitive exhausts.
