odometer not working 98v6

Talked to alot of pppl about the odometer not working in a 98 v6. everyone said I needed a guage cluster. Well i got a cluster, put it in, and the odometer still does not work,,, Any suggestions....

Did some research, found a guy that makes a new gear for the speedo, 25 bucks, same for the worm gear 25 bucks. evidently not a worm gears go bad, depends on if it is black or white. i will order it and let ya all know how it goes

Called the guy, ordered the gears, He said if ya do not need the worm gear just send it back,, give ya refund.. Followed the directions on the web site and all is well,, did not need the worm gear !! 25 bucks, hours work, daughter is very happy and so am I !! k Had purchased a used cluster only to have the same issue,, no odometer.. Just for giggles, pulled it apart,, sure enuf,, Same gear missing teeth...
