View Full Version : HELP CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHAT WOULD CAUSE THIS?

i just got my 351w up and running and just set the timing cylinder 8 is getting really hot pretty fast all other cylinders ar close to 200 cylinder 8 is getting between 500 and 600 degrees. i unpluged the injector thinking it could be stuck open and it didnt really change anything.. anyone had experiance with something like this before...if anyone can help i would really appreciate it.:confused:

Isn't hot a lean condition? Maybe the injector isn't working at all?

thats what i thought can u tell by looking at one if its bad and can u rebuild one?

Try switching two of the injectors.

Thats what I was thinking. See if the hot cylinder follows.

Unless something is severly jacked up with the outside of the injector, no. Depends on what's wrong with the injecotr but I'm sure it's rebuildable. Probably better to just buy new though. Do what Blake said.

And how are you verifying the temperature of each cylinder?

Hot is Lean,injector must be screwy or wrong plug mb in that cylinder

I had that happen once. One tube was cherry red. I set the lash to tight.

I switched injectors and that cilinder is still getting hott cylinders 5-8 do not seem to be running right any ideas?

You said above that cylinder 8 was the one that was getting hot?

So is it the entire bank of 1-4 that's getting hot now?

no 1-4 is geting to about 200 Degrees 5-7 is getting to like 170degrees and 8 is getting to like 400 i switched 5 and 8 injector and it didnt do anything im looking for a new injection harness because i found a few frayes wires and i would like to peplace it to see if it fixes the problem

So you are checking at start up with a cold engine? Let it come up to temp and check it again. Then check your plugs and see what they look like. The different length runners of the intake can cause that condition and give you a false positive

It gives you a result that's not what it is ie you think lean cylinder but really isn't just because its only at a certain point and nowhere else

oh ok well does any one have an injection harness for a 5.o with mass air?

only thing about this is its getting to 6 or 7 hundred degrees i dont want it to get to hott and warp the aluminum head?

If it is wiring related and that injector isn't firing on that cylinder no matter what injector you put there and that same injector is working on another cylinder, I'd pull the #8 plug and smell it for fuel.

Is it misfiring at all? If the injector isn't firing, you will have a misfire. If the exhaust is on the car, take a piece of paper and place it over the exhaust and see if it ever tries to suck the paper in at any point.

yes it seems to me like it is mis firing where ar u located maybe if u had a free min u could swing by i here u know alot about the 351s i live off beechmont?

Its not going to get too hot. Your exhaust gases get a lot hotter then 800 degrees. Pull the plug,check timing, did you pull the spout plug when you set it? As stated in thus thread is valve lash set right? Lot of factors but start with the basics

none of the temps sound too hot to me. all of mine run way over that. and they always change which ones run hotter than others
