What will cause the engine to not start when it is hot. Car starts fine when it is cold or just warm but when you drive it awhile then turn it off you cannot restart it until the engine cools down.
Thanks in advance.

Cranking slow or normal ? if slow , I would think the timing is to far advanced

How long do you have to let it cool down?

timing is set at 10 degrees and it does not take too long maybe 20 minutes.

Check the grounds

If it cranks just fine...check the TFI module on the distributer.

Yeah it cranks fine. When it is cold it starts right up like a new engine, but as soon as it gets hot and u shut it off it will not start at all

I was thinking this, too.

I have a distributor, that is good, that you could try, or just swap the TFI and see if it helps.

Had a friends car do this. His pos cable was very loose and his ground wire was very thin and the wires were old and crunchy. Fixed that and it started right up.

Check grounds for sure. How many grounds do u have? On the motor i mean? And i had a fuel pump that was bad once that when it got hot it would shut off.

Does it shut itself off while driving? Or does it run till you shut it off then wont restart? I would think first is the TFI module. They are not very expensive and im sure you can find someone to let you borrow a dis to try see if that fixes it if not definetly check grounds.

I know on the fbodys the ignition module on the head would get hot when bad and shut off after the car warmed up. sounds ignition related.

Car sounds like it tries to crank, but it does sound like it is a faster crank and you can smell fuel as well. I am going to try to swap tfi to check. Also another problem is the little box under the steering column that is for the wiper relay. Is there different style plugs for those. I cannot find a plug for the one I have (I have a plug under there that looks like it should work but it is a little too big.

I got one but right now it is too damn cold to pull the dizzy and put the new module in. I am driving the F150 for awhile since the roads suck.

you shouldnt have to pull the dizzy, mark the bottom where it goes into the block and turn it far enough to pull the tfi off. tops of a 5min job as long as your ac pump isnt in the way like mine is -_-

My car did this when I first bought it. First day I drove it to work I had to stop and get gas, got back in to start it and it would just crank slowly. Turned out to be the LT headers were almost touching the starter. Causing the starter to get hot and bind up. Went with a mini starter and no problems since. This was my frustrating experience.
