Ever wonder how they change the flashing light atop a radio transmission tower? Well you are about to find out. Get through the whole video without getting "nervy" or sweaty palms and you are ahead of most people's fear of heights. These guys got BALLS!!! No other way to put it.

My uncle use to do that for side money for a few companies when they had tower problems he would climb up them and fix the problem. Also, a friend of mine climbed one once had a heart attack while on the tower. Only thing that kept him from falling was his foot got caught in the tower when he fell back.

Side money? That would be one serious "side job". If I had the NADS, dexterity, and stamina to try (aside from the nerve) my price would be enough to retire very fat after one attempted or successful repair. LOL!!!

Its all mind over matter. I dont climb anymore unless I am doing jobs on the side. I am a project manager now and in the office. I climbed for 7 years and I do miss it at times especially in the summer. I have some photos here from WKRC channel 12 tower from several years ago. These were taken from 960-1000 ft. I have changed out the beacon bulb 3 different times on this tower. It's at 1267 ft. I am also including some pics of mother nature at work.

That white thing is Channel 12's HD antenna

Those are some cool pics. I'm not afraid of heights myself because there is always a reasonable expectation of survival. At those levels I may become a convert;)
