Assume you were hired to replace an engine in a 2006 Chev Trailblazer. An inline 4.2L 6 cylinder. The complete engine assembly less tranny and wiring harness. What would be the fair market labor rate and total labor shop hours to do this job? Nothing to do with any dealership or any person on this website. Just checking up on someone's character for a friend. Thanks.

The chilton labor manual for a direct swap engine that does not require component transfer is 17.3 labor hours. Figuring an automatic transmission, cruise control, power steering and a skid plate on a 4wd.

I charge $50 per hour for common domestics, rates vary on foreign vehicles when it takes additional time to find and aquire parts.
