Ok....lets make this real short. Let me see a show of hands...who here would put $250 worth in fuel pump and gas tank on a $1000 car?

(crickets chirping)

Yeah. I don't understand the mentality of buying the absolute best of the best of the best in parts for a car that has close to 300k on it and could explode at any minute. It's one thing that it's his only car, but damn at some point you have to cut your losses and move this money pit on to the next sucker and get something more reliable.

Kind of like buying a coupe roller for 300 bucks and spending 2 years plus in rust removal and frame rail replacement, just to drive it a few times..........LOL

I have numerous times tried to talk people out of wasting money on worthless cars. Then again I do not know how much I have invested in my wifes car over the last 2 years and it still isn't ready to be painted.

I deal with this on a weekly basis. I just did $800 worth of repairs on a 94 escort. In all seriousness, I would have junked the car. His reasoning was it was cheeper than a different car, that may have more problems. I guess I understand.

:rofl::lol:

this sounds familiar...

OR... buy a car for $100 and a car stereo, drive it to your house, tear it COMPLETELY apart, get rid of EVERYTHING you dont need because you decide to do a 5.0 swap, then go out and buy hundreds of dollars worth of parts that are just sitting around, because the car is still on jackstands, and has been since you pulled it into the garage 4 years ago to dismantle it, and youve changed your mind a 100 times on the engine/trans combo, paint scheme, and wheels!!!

It all started out with a bad heater core!!!

Now it has sooooooo many parts on it, in it, and under it you cant work on it!

I think I have a problem, and need help :o

If the car drives for another year for 800 dollars thats cheaper than a new car payment. Now if it starts to nickel and dime them then just junk it.

That's usually my way of thinking. :bigthumb

At the current rates of gas prices, I'd piece together a pos 94 escort right now lol. I'm really re-thinking my decision of 4:10's for the short bus right now lol....

I could see doing it on a car that had low miles and was in nice shape, but this thing is a beater. It's also not the first time money like this was thrown at it.

Well the other thing is, he has to have the most expensive part he can buy because he thinks that has to be the best part. No junkyard parts for this car, only the best.

Yeah...and he's one of those old school guys who won't listen to anything a youngster like myself says, whether it's how to fix something or now to make a car go fast. Nevermind that my car is faster than his toy.

No junkyard parts for this car, only the best. The humor in that is that certain parts like starters and alternators I prefer good used ones from strickers than reman junk. New obviously is best but strickers gives you a lifetime warranty for $50, hard to beat.

I have well over a grand in the fuel system of my Volvo, which I paid $170 for.

In all seriousness, eight years ago I put a $1300 rebuilt transmission in my little sister's Volvo 240 she bought for $600. She still has the car, and it was well worth the money to fix right rather than with junkyard parts.

If the $250 repair was the only thing that broke on the car this month, he just saved himself a new car payment.

Eight more years and it will be a classic!:bigthumb. My first car was an 84 Escort GT. Great little car.

It's different if you're building a car and start out with a beater....this isn't ever going to be anything but a beater.

I have people throw big $ into junkers (IMO) all the time, but as many of them say, its cheaper than a payment, & if a grand or so once every year or two keeps them running, I'd have to agree, more & more peple are putting money into their current rides as opposed to buying new. And it keeps me putting food on the table for my girls....:bigthumb
