UPR Products 10-second 2010 Mustang GT Convertible



One the shop cars at Unlimited Performance Racing is a 2010 Mustang GT Convertible. Originally, I thought it was just a demo vehicle for billet dress up parts. Then they started showing up at the track with it. This past Wednesday night, Jeremy Martorella took the convertible to PBIR for some testing and it ran 10.17 @ 138 on street tires!

I saw the video and I had to check it out, so I drove over to Unlimited Performance on Thursday to see the car firsthand. It's surprisingly simple for a low 10-second car.



Exhaust exits via Kooks headers & x-pipe and a Magnaflow axle-back kit. The rear suspension features UPR's chrome-moly street control arms, adjustable panhard bar, and QA1 shocks. The factory 8.8 has an FRPP 4.30 gear and a UPR Billet differential cover.

After I snapped a couple of pictures on the lift, Jeremy brought the car down so we could take it for a spin.

It was a beautiful day in South Florida (as usual) so we had to drop the top.

This car is pretty slick looking. The front end is a work in progress. UPR recently installed the billet grilles, and they're considering a custom ram air system to draw air from the factory fog-light holes over to the Roush blower's inlet.

The convertible's interior is surprisingly plush, surprising because it doesn't look like the cockpit of a 10-second street-killer.

A Roush supercharger force-feeds the factory 3-valve heads & cams which ride on a forged JDM shortblock. The UPR/JDM Pro-Series tune makes 660 horsepower at the tire.

Much was said about the car's stock-like driveability, so we decided to take it for a spin so I could experience it for myself.

I have to admit, I was very impressed. This car is deceptively fast. It drives as comfortably as a stock 3-valve GT, that is until you drop the hammer and the car's drag-strip brawler persona shows up to the party! 660 horsepower and 10.17 @ 138 in the quarter mile... It just doesn't make sense! This convertible is faster than a lot of RACECARS, yet it is a perfectly reliable daily driver that pulls an average of 21.5 miles per gallon of gas. Ridiculosity!



So for those of you out there that suffer from Coyote-Envy (like me) don't be so quick to dismiss the 3-valve GTs. They are cheap and plentiful in the used-car market, and one call or click to UPR Products can turn a mild-mannered 2005-10 Mustang GT into a 10-second wolf in sheep's clothing.



However, if you've already taken the plunge and purchased a 2011-12 Mustang GT, stay tuned. Unlimited Performance is putting the finishing touches on their Hellion Turbocharged 2011 GT!

welcome to 2011,there bad ass,hell i love my 3v it rips,theres a ton of 10 sec stock motor 3v cars out theres a few 10 sec n/a lightweight bolt on cars to,my bone stock 05 went 12.50's with a set of 410's and thats it. it drives and rides like butter,i'm hopeing to squeeze a high 10's out of mine by the end of the year......yea not bad for a daily driver tank;) hopefully in the next yr or two i can pick up a coyote from car-parts reasonable to replace the 3v
