I'm planning on helping a buddy remove and install a 4.0 in a 2000 Ford Explorer. Does anyone know the best way of doing this or things to look out for.

Also are the 4.0 interchangeable year to year? Would a 1994 4.0 work in this vehicle?

If it is the same OHV it should...may have to change some accesories around. But in 2000 they had two 4.0's. One was the OHV and the other was the SOHC. So make sure he is getting the correct 4.0.

Thanks, the motor my buddy is planning to get is a OHV from a 94 which he also has a OHV.

vin code x and e are different engines. I think it is the seventh digit in the vin code you need to look at.

That is the codes for the OHV and SOHC engines.
