Completely lost my clutch pedal on a 1-2 shift last night. Dont know if it's the master cyl or slave. It seems to have pressure when I pump it when it's off. THen when I turn it on I lose my pressure. I can shift it but it doesn't feel good at all I don't wanna destroy my trans or hurt anything. The master cyl reservoir has fluid in it. The master is 2 years old at least (autozone brand) and the slave is a new GM one installed this last fall. WTF do I do to analyze this? I need it fixed by monday for my new job! HELP!!! If you can help me fix it holler !

Time to break out my skills and try to remove this thing myself...I've assisted in replacing this part 2x...only part that I'm not familiar with is the quick disconnect part that goes into the trans. Hopefully I don't fuck this thing up too bad LOL. I hope it's the master, b/c if it's the slave I have never gone into a trans before :/

So the slave works the clutch when the car is NOT running, but doesnt work when the car IS running?
Sounds kinda odd,i dont think it runs off of vacuum since it doesnt attach to the brake master cylinder.

Besides being a GM product? In all seriousness though I HATE hydraulic clutches. They seem like nothing but a headache.

I'm not familiar with hydraulic cluthes we had a truck do this once and we were told it was pressure plate failing by the dealer. But I brought it back and replaces the master and slave and it was fine. So I have no idea but I guess if your gonna take a shot I would do the master and cross my fingers. Good luck

Basically, if the car sits and is off, when I press it it has decent pressure. The second I turn the key and try to take off, it loses pressure. I dunno if I'm describing it accurately. These cars are notorious for having hydraulics issues, so it's gotta be the master or slave. I'm leaning towards the master and here's why:

1. My master has failed before.
2. I replaced it with an equally shitty autozone brand master. (2+ years ago I'd say)(last year we replaced the metal plunger piece that got bent on a shift, the rest of the unit was functioning).
3. Smack just replaced my slave last fall with a GM brand slave (the good shit).

This is why I'm leaning towards the master. But I really won't know until I get the new master on. Then if it's still shitty obviously it's the slave :/

It's times like this that I miss my foxbody cable clutch LOL

Update. Tracey thinks my clutch took a shit. I've had 2 masters go bad, and 1 slave, and this feels nothing like that. I told him it's not catching right off the floor like bad hydraulics...instead it's catching at the very end and feels like I'm slipping the fuck out of my clutch. That's crazy a clutch can just take a shit on one shift. Mcleod RST twin disk is what he recommended...$$$$ :( FUUUUUUCK lol. I'm going to unhook the master tomorrow from the trans and lightly press the pedal. If the pedal doesn't move I'm told the master is fine.

I'm not excited about spending money...but I am excited about possibly learning to change a clutch. I have been wanting to learn that for awhile now.

For the clutch kit I really need...it's 8 days until it will ship and almost $1400.... Fuck... I'm thinking of just throwing another centerforce in there. Hell, this one did last 35k...

03-25-2011, 09:56 PM
Well 35k is along time if you race it and 1400 shit that's like 7 center forces huh lol. I run a spec stage 3 with no problems.

Centerforce one is $400, and on back order 16 days. I'll probably get the Mcleod one. I really want to shift with confidence. I hate having that feeling in the back of my mind that my clutch will likely fail lol. I've heard nothing good about centerforce from people with higher hp cars. And that 35k miles wasn't all higher hp. A good portion of that was bolt-ons (maybe 350whpish tuned on stock cam/heads). Then I got the cam for a year (406rwhp). Then I got the heads last year and have put maybe 7k on it since then. So honestly it didn't last long with 454rwhp.

What's the price diff between a DFX kit and a Mcleod kit? If it's only a few hundo I'd rather sleep peacefully and get the good shit.

I I have 462/472 at the wheels with no problems. Have you tried mike bell he might be able to hook you up that's were all my trans stuff came from. Either way it seams like your kind of stuck with what's available sadly.

If Mike Bell has something I can use he needs to hit me up asap! lol. After I diagnose the master tomorrow I'll likely order something by Sunday. I need this shit asap so I can get to work.

Well I would say him or Craig should be able to find something lol. But I don't think anyone ships on Sunday. You might have to drive to cbus that would suck.

I have nothing to drive is the problem LOL. And Jegs is the one I called for those shipping estimates. I'll see if Cincy Speed or Dayton Perf has anything in stock. Otherwise looks like I'll need a rental car for a week while I wait on the new clutch to come in.

Even if it ends up being the clutch save up for a mcleod adjustable master and slave. They aren't really cheap but are a dream becauase they allow you to adjust the hydraulic clutch system like you can a cable clutch. You can adjust the throw distance and release point of the clutch to be just about however you want it.

Squale iii
03-25-2011, 10:38 PM
I can already do that. I have an adjustable end piece that you put the stock type piece into. It has an adjuster on one end and you just lossen the two nuts and turn it clockwise or counter clockwise. It's no tick master cylinder, but it works for now. When I get the money I'm getting a tick master they are the shit.

Man that really sucks! I wish you the best and I guess hope it's just the master. Were are you located

By the Dayton Mall. It's not the master... I know deep down it's the clutch. Everybody has been telling me it's a piece of shit since the day I bought it. After having 2 masters and 1 slave fail, I know what shitty hydraulics feel like. This is nothing like it. It feels like our shitty cabrio's automatic tranny felt when it was on it's way out. Slips like a maufucka lol.

if it helps i got a dfx in my cobra and its plenty of clutch, it feels like it will take whatever i throw at it. it does have slight chatter though. if you do it your self and want a hand im right around the corner, its a pretty easy job.
