I have a supercharged mustang gt it was dyno tuned at brenspeed and was right at 400 hp with 6lbs of boost. It has a 3.25 pulley on it now and I was thinking about gettinga 3 inch pulley hoping for closer to 8 or 9lbs of boost. While the cars dyno sheet says air fule is perfect the car smells and seems to be running rich. Would I be safe to put the smaller pulley on without retuning the car. Thanks for any help.

Yes. Stuffing more air in the engine means that it is going to need more fuel. Just because it smells rich doesn't mean that it is.

It might be safe, but only if the MAF curve was tuned properly, the MAF has enough headroom to meter the increased flow, the timing tables built with dealing with higher load situations that the smaller pulley will create, etc. I'd highly recommend at least getting to a dyno and checking to make sure everything looks safe still. It will be perfectly ok to drive around if you don't got WOT in the mean time.

Yeah, I would never add that much boost without getting the car re-tuned. There are a lot of variables that can really make that a bad combo without a re-tune. Just my opinion though, too much to risk over a very simple and relatively cheap re-tune.

Right on thanks guys. Any recommendations on best place to take it. Also cost wise to get it done. If its gonna too much may just wait till I get some cams before I put this pulley on so I only have to tune it once.

I've only used Dayton Performance for tuning but any of the shops that support the site can take care of your needs.

any idea price wise what it would cost.

I would contact a local tuner and check their estimates. Cincy Speed, Modular Depot, Red 9, S&M motorsports...

But if I had to guess, if the tune is good right now then I dont see why it would take more than but an hour and a half to 2 hours to clean up a tune for a few more pounds of boost. Typically rates are between $125-$150 per hour of dyno time. So I would say approx. $200-$300. But I am not affiliated with any of them and thats my best estimate.

anybody have a suggestion on what cams would be good for the car. Like to get up to about 450 to 460 rwhp sitting at 400 even right now figured 3lbs more boost and some cams could get me there.

read my signature. Brenspeed is the place to go. They have never, ever, let me down. Detroit Rockers, Saleen stage three package, Exedy Mach 500 clutch setup, tuned, etc. 9 PSI with conservative tune and GREAT driveability. Brent is a Purdue Grad with a degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology. He has been doing this line of work since he was in highschool. No place I would trust more and well worth the 3-4 hour drive. They back up their work. Chandler will spend all day with you if need be to get you taken care of as will John. George did my cams, and stage 3 upgrade in under 3 hours. it was on the dyno before I knew it. I'm telling you now these are the guys for S197 mustangs.Uh, ignore the decimal points its a personal joke.

I was thinking about either the cams or a set of 4.10 gears but didnt know if those gears would be a bad combo with the supercharged car.

I put a pair of 245/45/17 DR's on mine last year and wentot the track. I was only making 427/407 then. The shorter 25.6 inch tire changed the rear ratio from 355 to 376 based on tire height. For a street setup (never planning to run full slicks) I felt and still feel that 355 is more than enough on a twin screw setup based on that. Even with the 285/40.18's on the car now (Nitto 555Extremes),and the stock 355 it will turn them with relative ease in first. A centri style SC setup on the otherhand does not make quite as much torque on the low end based on what I have researched and on final numbers I have seen on other vehicles therefore the gear chageto 390 or 410 has some benefit. With the Saleen the torque is on demand from the get go clear through to redline. It really depends on what you want to do with it, but most I have talked to have said that on their F/I setup the shorter gear pretty much renders first a waste without full slicks or at least MT Drag ET's. Others may differ in opinion hoever on the geairng question. But thats my .02. I'm real happy with what I have. Last thing before the big save for a stroker short block will be LT's and midpipe. Good luck. Bring it to the cruise in next week. 4/10.

Ill pull my dyno sheet out it was like 401 rwhp and thinking 380 rwtq I have a powerdyne at 6psi. It has full exhaust long tube headers o/r hpipe and did have a triple sss axel back on it but was too loud so I put some flowmasters on it. I have drag radials on it when its cold out I dont even think about hooking up. Seemed as though when it was warmer it hooked pretty descent. I was thinking about putting some chrome 20s on the car and thought with that extra weight maybe 4.10s would keep me in the same time range I am in now. Whats your best quarter mile run. I thought it would help me build boost faster as well. Do you have anything else done to your car. I didnt think that my car would put out as much power as it does with the centri supercharger. In my head I was also thinking thats only about a half turn more over stock per rotation correct.

The stock 5 speed came as 3.55 diff. A change of .55 rotation is significant. Most auto's came with 3.31 diff's if memory serves correctly. THerefore the change is even greater. You can always do the gear later after you have taken the engine to the point you are happy with. Would better allow you to match gearing that way based on final torque numbers, tire size, etc. I am going here mainly on my setup, basic understanding, what I have read, and listening to guys/gals who race on a regular basis.

As far as my setup, the only thing I have yet to do is add the newest set of LCA's I purchased. Don't waste you money n Steeda IMHO. I have a pair that I took off. The sleeves in the bushings may crush in on you as mine did. The shims they provide also begin splitting as I found. And yes I set the torque to 129 ft.lb as Ford tech manul specified. I am planning on LT's as stated earlier but that is another tiem and after I have paid of this month's CC bill.

Pick up a 2006 set of tech manuals on ebay. Best $50 bucks I ever spent BTW.

Hope to see your setup at the cruise in 4/10. Stop by and say hi!

I had a procharged 91 gt convertible last year it had full exhaust and was stock other then that and a 3.73 gear change. It seemed to have more low end power then the current car I have. I could be going 50mph and touch the gas and feel Like I had some pick up this 06 unless down shifting or from 1st gear feels doggy.

Put the hurst competition short throw in and holy cow. Had short throws in the fox bodies but dang its even better in the sn197 cars.

good looking car. sounds nice as well. Brenspeed is 2:45 from your doorstep. You are going to have to do your own research and come to your own conclusion on who or where you take your car to. Good luck and post some numbers when you got it done. :bigthumb

Yeah, I forgot I have that as well. Went with the billet version. First time I shifted it I thought it was bound up. LOL!. many suggest the MGW which is a very, very smooth and short choice. I prefer the Hurst though because of the looks plus I have this thing for Linda Vaughn (likely b4 your time) LOL!
