Hey guys I really just wanted to share my love hate relationship with my 94 Mustang Gt. I love the car and i love the way it looks with the 95 Cobra R hood Rims and Cobra front bumper.

However I just got the car last fall and it is safe to say the car has had a hard life. Luckily it has fresh paint when i got it so exterior is all good, but every damn time i try to work on the freaking thing a simple task or install becomes a pain in the ass 2-7 day event. A simple H-pipe install took like 4 days I mean i wasn't working on the car all day those four days because of work and school but 4 evenings seriously. It is like every bolt is seized up (which is y every bolt I put back on has anti-seize on it lol) but it is frustrating. So yea this kinda pisses me off and my wife well she could care less how I feel about it so I came to you guys to vent. So there it is.

My car was the same way...seemed like everything i went to fix had something else that needed fixed before i could fix the initial problem. The good news is eventually everything ends up being brand new and you know how it got there so the surprises go away eventually.

That sucks brother, I recently went through the same thing on my 86 McLaren, just gonna do a cat back because the factory system had holes in the muffler....broke off all 4 bolts attached to the factory H-pipe after days of soaking with PB. Then I say fuck it, scrounge up an h-pipe from someone on the boards here, and what do you know....the header bolts which had been soaking for a week easy....I couldn't even break them. The nuts were so siezed and rusted, my socket would slip with the amount of force I was using in attempt to break the bolts off, they weren't gonna come loose.

I then spend 2 nights after work trying random die grinders, cut-off wheels, removed the header bolts just so I could get the exhaust to drop lower in the car....get nowhere fast. In the meantime, I realize I might as well find a set of headers cause this factory set isn't going to survive this surgery.

So, 4 rounded nuts later, I get my plasma out....first click of the button and my plasma dies......come to find a month after being at the Hobart service center that the motherboard is fried ($800 motherboard-fuck you Hobart!!!). So, I ask all my friends in search of a oxy-acetaline torch. A week goes by I find a friend of a friend.

I get the torch and proceed to very carefully, without burning brake lines, fuel lines, carpet etc, try to melt these bolts off.....All is well, the carnage is finally happening.....I am finally going to get this fucking exhaust off the car.

I smell smoke after several minutes of this, and get out from under the car to find the entire inside of my perfect 57k mile interior is full of smoke...I open the door, it's so thick I can't see anything, not even the seats or dash, or heaven forbid where the fire was.....I proceed to open the garage door, race to fan the car out, and finally I realize it's coming from the dash. I feel around from the passenger side and as soon as I touched the rubber around the heater core tubes, it was boiling hot, instantly burning my hand.....so I race inside to get some water thinking somehow I will be able to throw the water up under the dash and put this out.......but no, it continues to burn and smolder and smoke like a freight train. I finally realize I have to smother it, and get a wet towel and 5 minutes later the smoke stops, the rubber is still hot to touch, and some how there is really no visible damage anywhere.

Turns out, since heat rises (I know what you're thinking, duh!!) The rubber grommet on the firewall 8-10 inches above the header flange that I am laying the flame to is what caught fire.

So, what started as a simple cat-back swap turned into a full exhaust clusterfuck that nearly burnt my car that I have owned since I was 18. Not to mention, my garage was tied up for weeks!!!

Sorry, I think I just had my first rant in your thread. Oh well, kind of like you, the Mrs. could give 2 shits to hear about my car problems. DAMMIT, that feels good to get that off my chest......

EDIT-I still don't think my lungs have healed from that smoke, I was stuck under that dash forever trying to smother it as it smoked.....I have had constant sinus and chest congestion since that happened in December. Forgot to mention-FUCK YOU HOBART!!!

That's about as bad as what you expect when you take parts off of a car with 230K like mine lol!!

Kinda makes your butt pucker when trying to losen a bolt you just KNOW is going to break...

My old '88 GT had the same issues with the exhaust...everything was basically welded together and had to be cut off. My first header/exhaust install was on ramps in an apartment parking lot over a weekend lol.

I'm feeling spoiled right now. Thursday night Bobby and I disassembled my 1967 Alfa GTV to start the restoration/prep work...the car has been in storage for 13 years and just about everything came out without even having to use a breaker bar, let alone PB Blaster. We did cut off the exhaust because it was rusted out and I'm going to fab up a header/sidepipe system for it, but the rest of the car came apart with wrenches and sockets.

I no exactly how you feel. I've been working on my exhaust setup for three weeks now.
All I have to do now is the tailpypes and figure out y it songs to die at idle.

well now i wanted to simply replace my thermostat and I assume the stock bolt which took a star bit or a hex wrench (couldn't tell really cause they were jacked up already) freaking stripped out on me so I got the top bolt out and tried everything i could to get the bottom one out and i can't so now i am trying to take off the intake manifold well now it's like my distributor is stuck to the motor I am going to try turning the motor a little with a socket on one of the pulleys to make sure the gear isn't bound up

But I am getting so pissed off. I don't want to say i bought a piece of crap cause the car has potential but i am just frustrated. Glad you guys understand and feel my pain.

O and acsCapri dude I am sorry that happened if you ever need to rant again just hit up my thread lol I will listen to your frustrations if you listen to mine lol.

O 85_SS_302_Coupe I agree with what you said eventually everything will be new or newer on the car and won't be fused together with rust. lol thanks again guys

Your thermostat housing bolts shouldn't have been star/hex... lol someone has been in that thing before it sounds like

Btw, if you've never ever moved the distributor on a 5.0, they will seize in place. Had to "unlock" one on my buddys 85 once. Not too bad, but not fun.

Sometimes it's just easier to sign a check and drive the car off with your new part installed. Doing it yourself is great, but pick your battles. I wrestle with this crap daily, I know how frustrating it can be and can't imagine tackling it without all the tools I have at my disposal. Glad that capri didn't burn to the ground it's too nice and too rare for that.

i also agree it is sometimes easier to pay a mechanic to do some stuff like i need a new window motor installed on my driver door and i don't have the patients for that thats the kinda stuff i can't stand to do

window motor is easy....... you should try might have to remove a speaker if you have door speakers

Stangman
04-11-2011, 03:18 PM
Yep! Had to pull my speaker out and replace it, but at the same time give a swift wake up call to my windoow motor that had quit working

Is your car in a garage?

furiouslyfaster
04-11-2011, 04:25 PM
no i don't have a garage...... yet lol maybe by the end of the summer have to finish re-doing a room in the house then gonna get a line of credit and build a garage

so a window motor isn't that bad? the one on my passenger side lockup so i gave it a few taps with a hammer and it works fine but i think its the bushings in my driver side door which i bought new bushings but the way things on my car have been i am really doubting my ability to work on this car. lol

well once again i am really glad its just not me and i might have to try doing the window motor myself then. I know were it was and that it is riveted on to the door just didn't know how big of a pain it was to get my hands in there and all that stuff.

3 different motors really HawksWR37 from your banner i can kinda see why (did it have anything to do with the turbo) my older brother nick is a boost addict we tried to have an intervention but it didn't work lol. they are a blast to drive though I drove his 89 turbo'd lx and lets just say you can't not smile when your riding in it. I tried

You window motor is held in by 3 bolts (don't drop em!) And the regulator is rivited to the door... you don't have to mess with that.

furiouslyfaster
04-12-2011, 03:15 PM
really? do i have to support the window or anything when I take the motor out? If not that is sweet. Jesse you gotta come over sometime I would like to checkout your car

Stangman
04-12-2011, 03:19 PM
The window will stay up by itself, but goes down verrrryyyy easy.

I will stop by when its nice and dry out... my drag radials are no match for all this rain lately

Pitbull1052
04-12-2011, 03:21 PM
you might have to I don't think I did and Jess is correct three bolts that's it I put electrical tape in the socket that way you don't drop the bolt

04-12-2011, 04:00 PM
And foxbody window motors don't work in sn95's... I tried everything possible to come up with a way to make it work lol

04-12-2011, 04:25 PM
well back when I first got the car I did some research and found that most of the time it is the bushings in the motor so i bought some bushings to replace the old worn ones (assuming that is the problem) I did this cause i was trying to save money. (they were 6 bucks shipped) so thats my reasoning.

What kinda drag radials do you have jesse? Idk if you remember when i was looking for wheels but those 19's that were on the car I traded for some 95 Cobra R's 9" wide in front and 10.5" in back looks sick, but the rear tires on my cobra r's are Nitto 555R's and they are not worth a thing in the rain. I also bought a set of regular cobra wheels off of a guy I know with a 1996 Mystic Cobra for 400 bucks with brand new Falken Tires on them they are nice too!

04-12-2011, 07:56 PM
Correct, when my drivers side wouldn't go up or down, but I could hear the motor, it ended up being the teflon bushings. Did the kit you bought come with the grease to fill it back up after you clean the teflon carnage out of it?

My car also has 555R's on the back, 315/35 17's.

Did great in the rain for me, until recently, but they were almost new when I got them.

I had the same prob with the Nitto DR's. When they were newish they were fine in the rain, after about 6 months they were horrible in the rain.

04-13-2011, 08:57 AM
No Jesse it did not come with any grease to put in there. Is that something I can pick up at advanced auto. Is it gear grease or something like that?

04-13-2011, 10:28 AM
I have some grease left over from repairing my motor.

Well all of this whining and complaining paid off after a few days of spraying the base of the distributor with lubricant when i got home last night i thought hey i will see if that distributor will break loose and sure enough it did took very little effort.

Unfortunately the car still isn't back together but it will be soon so i can at least drive it. Jesse you still have to come over when it dries up lol I want your thoughts on a few things.
