Got an 01 GT but getting a little tired of the automatic wanting to switch it to a 5 speed and not sure how to do it with the computer and stuff like that i have mainly worked on fox bodies any ideas on what all i need and what i need to do to switch it to a 5 speed, i know the cars usually come with the 3650 5 speed but not sure what all i need to make the switch a success!

You will need the trans, clutch, shifter, pedals, trans wiring harness, fly wheel, clutch cable, quadrant, firewall adjuster, clutch fork, and either a tune or a computer from a manual trans car. The 3650 has the bellhousing built in but you could go with a TKPO500/600 or even a T5 if you get the right bell housing. The pedals are the hardest part.

did it, and don't want to do it again. lol.

seriously, find you someone who wants an auto. I traded Bluecrew07 and love the auto with my turbo setup. Just so you know, if you start getting into some bigger power numbers, you will wish you still had the auto. The 5-speeds are fun but thier not known for being stout. The t-45's were really weak and the t-3650 is a little stronger, but I would definately look at staying with what you have.

If you do a swap with someone, you will need to swap the instrument cluster, the steering column, shifter, shifter cables, flywheel, clutch, pedals, computer and of course transmission and harness. now you can get away with not swapping out the steering column and instrument cluster but you will have to have the pats turned off. If you do swap the steering column and instrument cluster, it is way easier to get the pedals out after the column is removed. Hope this helps.

I converted my car to an auto last year and have hated it every since. I can't wait to get the engine together so I can get the stick back in it. The only way I will ever own an auto car again is if its a seriously high horsepower strip only car.

If you aren't trading someone for their manual like blackout or I did the best option is to just get the car tuned and have all the auto parameters turned off. Unfortunately you can't just turn them on with a manual trans car thats going auto. :(

sounds like alot to just make it a stick i just love 5 speeds and never really got into the automatics but i could also just buy a wrecked roller and get everything i need to have as long as its there that would be price depending lol. but every mustang i have had has been a 5 speed except like 4 of them and thats what i want lol just have to put plan in action or just buy a 5 speed car lmao

Its really not bad to go from auto to manual. Going the other way around is a little more work. Most of the work can probably be done in 3 or 4 hours if you have all the parts.

yeah, I had to do all the work myself on both ends of my swap. i had to dissemble both cars and reassemble both cars. "very exhausting"

i bet think im gonna wait for a little but before i do sounds like alot of work for just one person and would be better with both cars side by side for it to go well

I was fortunate enough to have both cars side by side and on a lift which made it much easier. We could have had my buddy's auto car converted to a stick in probably 4-5 hours. Going the other way takes longer since the trans tunnels in the two cars are different which made mounting the auto shifter a real PITA. Then through in my BBk long tubes and you have 2 and a half days of work on my car to put the damn auto in it.

He can set you up a badass cage also :) It would be pretty cheap since its not a vert or a sunroof car...
