As some of you may know, my wife gave birth to our beautiful baby girls back in December and they were a full 10 weeks early. They spent 47 days in the NICU and have been doing well since coming home. One of the first things that the doctors did for my girls after intubating Alexis and clearing Aubrey's air way was to give them surfactant that helped open the air ways and sacks in their lungs so they could breathe. The surfactant on top of the steroid injections that my wife received before the babies were delivered are two of the biggest reasons that the girls survived and are doing so well now.
The Surfactant treatment that Aubrey and Alexis received were developed thanks to a grant from the March of Dimes. The March of Dimes works to fund research for treatment and the search for cures for many infant and childrens' birth defects, genetic disorders, and other diseases, as well prematurity.
This is why my wife and I decided we would participate this year in a March of Dimes March for Babies to help and raise money and awareness for everything that MoD does. I know money is tight for most everyone these days but if you are willing and able to give even a few dollars we'd be highly greatful. I truly believe that if my little girls didn't receive that surfactant treatment, they'd both would have ended up being intubated and would be suffered far more setbacks and complications than they did.
