well my day started off as i back out and head to work this morning and half way to work i look down and lose all oil pressure and then car shuts off by its self. i coast in to a drive way to look down to the check oil light. (not to mention i just got the car back sunday from getting all the parts put on it)..

so i jump out of the car pop the hood and pull the dip stick. nothing, not one single drop. right now im just in shock and kinda pissed off at the same time that my car might have just blowed up.

well i have the car towed to my work and on my lunch break we go out to check it out, look down to find the f/n fram oil filter about to fall off and the gasket blowed out the side.

we pull it off and it looks like the factory threads are screwed up. i have heard alot of things about fram but never really seen anything myself?
it allmost cost me a motor today.

bleave it or not i put a new motorcraft filter on it today and new oil and she went back to normal just like b4. i think the mustang god was looking out for me this morning.

JUST TO LET YOU KNOW DONT USE THESE JUNK A#$ FILTERS.

Ive never had a bad Fram filter but I feel for ya. They make filters for lots of companies and could be making them for Ford. Lowest bidder type of work. I used to have a link to a website that cut open all the filters and compared them, that way you could see who made them for who.

And I put the filter on myself, lubed the o ring seal and tightened it by hand (pretty damn tight) and this happens a few days later... I dont use fram by choice from what Ive read. Glad it turned out good though and didnt cause more problems than it could've. Got lucky this time.

Maybe its just a sign to start on a big motor!!!

I worked at McQuiks when I was 16, they used fram filters. There were usually 2-3 problems per week for defective filters. I have seen some crazy crap and chased a car down the road to tell them to shut the engine off because half their oil filter was in the parking lot.
I buy motorcraft filters for all my fords.

yeah i deff feel lucky. and the big part that could have help me is the full syn oil im running. either way im glad the stang didnt get hurt and im back out playing in it.

i talked to a bunch of guys that i use to work with at the walmart tire and lube center yesterday and they said after i had left they had a major issue with them where they had to pull all the fram filters off the shelf because of a defect. wouldnt you figured i wasnt around to see this. so i told them i think they left one on the shelf and i finally bought it.

I had a friend that lost two motors because of Fram oil filters. I stick with Made in U.S.A. Motorcraft!

WIX are the only filters I use. I actually bought a case of 51515 filters for my truck and car. It was cheap.

Fram is Garbage. Had a filter grenade on me internally- motor lost pressure. I thought it was the oil pump but discovered the filter clogged after dropping the pan. Motorcraft, mopar or Delco for me (depending on vehicle)- just gotta watch for counterfeits.

well i got up this morning and to my surprise started the car and oil pressure went up and then right back down. up then right back down and then i held her at 1500 rpm and it jumped up and stayed there. took off to work and pulled up at the light and it went back down??????????? took off again and it jumped up and stayed about half way and never came back down?????????????????

im now wondering if im not so lucky and something internaly didnt go wrong?????????

after work i jumped in the car and it jumped up to half on the gauge and never once missed a beat????????

answer or suggestion plzzzzzz

Need to try a mechanical gauge and see what it says. Could be something as small as a wire problem. Thats where Id start. Then if that shows the same, Id look further into the engine... From the wear inside the engine that we seen, it may be possible that it was going south and we just helped it along!

My break in filter on my old 306 was a Fram. While it was running it was dripping oil out of it by the seal. Lets just say im not allowed in that auto zone store anymore. FK fram

I thought everybody knew Fram oil filters were garbage. They're the ones with cardboard end caps. Fram filters have caused deaths in motorcycle racing when the cardboard end caps came apart and caused the engine to lock up throwing the rider.
I use Purolator Pure One, Motorcraft or Amsoil filters.
There is a pretty great oil filter study on the internet and they really rip Fram a new one.

here's a break down in who makes what filter

http://minimopar.knizefamily.net/oilfilters/index.html

I use Purolator Pure One, Motorcraft or Amsoil filters.

Well two of your choices are made by the same company

Purolator - Bosch, Motorcraft, PowerFlo, ProLine, Purolator Premium Plus, Purolator Pure One, Quaker State

Honeywell makes these filters - Fram Extra Guard, Fram Tough Guard, Fram Double Guard, Fram High Mileage, Pennzoil, Quaker State

Champion Labs - AC Delco, Car and Driver, Champ, Deutsch, STP, K&N, Mobil 1

Quaker state oil filters are made by fram. I worked at a quaker state oil lube center (McQuiks) and the filters came from fram, oddball stuff that was low volume was just fram. Most things were painted green and the part numbers changed from pf to qs. Unless it has changed since then at least.

My wifes grandfather has a windstar. Came to me w/ an intermittent valvetrain noise on start up. After digging into the concern he said it started after the trans was rebuilt. They also changed the engine oil using guess what filter. After the installation of a motorcraft he has never had a problem since.

This makes the third defective fram filter I have seen myself.

FRAM=JUNK.

"Made by the same company" means nothing. Vegas and Corvettes are also made by the same company.

Doesn't really matter which one of the 3 manufacturing companies make the cheaper filters. They make them to the buyer's spec's and price point....you want a cheap filter..they will make you a cheap filter.

Exactly, it is hard to blame the manufacturer when they are giving the customer what they want. While the ethical thing to do is not produce anything you wouldn't use on your own car I am sure their employees have families to feed to and if making a filter out of 24 gauge instead of 18 gauge, using a roll of toilet paper and a plastic valve on some oil fiters do that then it is hard to blame them. Almost anything you buy you can get low grade parts. I learned quickly about cheap suspension and steering parts, even on vehicles you don't expect to last long they aren't worth having. But when the consumer wants it it is not the manufacturers fault for giving them what they paid for.
Last week I had a guy bring me a 4r100 converter he thought was stripped out. He uses the vehicle exclusively for towing a 16000lb back hoe. The converter was not hurt the trans was. I gave him an estimate on building a tough converter and transmission and he freaked out saying he would get it done for $400 doing it himself. I just put his converter back together for him and he called me 2 days later with no forward problems. After he replaced the clutches only (he calls this rebuilt) it did not work any better than before. Ironically none of the original frictions were ruined. Now he will probably end up taking the truck to aamco and paying 4 gran for a transmission that will not be under any warranty because of the commercial use. He set himself up for failure by trying to buy the cheapest crap he could and now he will pay for not only the parts he already bought but all the new parts he still needs. He only has himself to blame. Anyone who knows anything about fram filters or thousands of other dirt cheap auto parts and buys them is doing the same.
you aren't saving money if you have to throw it away and go buy the good part. In the case of an oil filter your engines life hangs in the balance.

i thought they did endless testing on frams, so the consumer knew he had the best filter available. lol jk, have heard the "pop test" commercial on the radio like 10 times in the past week. what a joke.
