Bought a 92 lx with the motor soundin like chitty chitty bang bang,. oil pickup was coked up bad.. bought a reman head. found a short block brand new, but had to drill holes in the block for the crank sensor. Runs great, no issues except with starting. the starter does not GRIND, but WHIRLS. Checked Ignition Switched, even installed new one, all was good. Checked voltage at the bendix on the starter, ya let the key off and voltage is gone so it is not hanging around making it drag. TRied 2 sets of shims from ford and the dam thing still whirls. Tried 3 other starters, same results.. At this point wondering if the maybe the older block was different size, but was sure the shim would help,,, Maybe there is a shim behind flyheel on new ones not on old ones, maybe the flywheel was crooked, but checked when they were put in and seemed ok. Searching for help but for now it runs and I am frustrated so I just say its a custom starter !! Has anyone else experienced anything like this !!!
