Im looking to buy another gun here shortly, ive been looking at the Springfield XD compact 9mm but also the 40 cal version. Does anyone own one of these or have shot one, pros and cons on them? would it be a good hand gun for CC?

I have the 9mm sub and love it. It is good for a carry gun. Im pretty sure that they come with a 10 rd and 16rd mag. The key is to find a good holster for it to carry.

i've got a .40cal 3.8in barrel XDm, which is the same length as the compact. Just shot it today for the first time and love it. It was my first time shooting a handgun period and i was pleased. brandon shot it too and was pretty impressed. there are a few others on here that have xd's and i've seen nothing but good reviews. get on XDtalk.com for some good info. :bigthumb

9mm ammo is so much cheaper to shoot than .40 tho. Just a thought.

I have the sub compact xd in 9mm for carry and the full size xdm in .40 and seriously love them both. I think they are great guns.

The Springfield XD series is one of the best values you can get these days.

Take a look at the Smith & Wesson M&P. I prefer it to the XD by a long shot. A bit thinner and much more comfortable in my hand. Also a fair amount cheaper.
The XD is a great gun but the ergonomics aren't the greatest in my opinion.
The Sig 250 is another to look at.

Ive seen the M&P, i want to look at that as well i want to know what they mean about the 2 stage trigger, but i do have a smaller hand.

Love my XD as well, the new XDM just came out in the sub compact.

I did not really care for the M&P, the trigger weird feeling. IMOP

Don't believe the M&P Handgun has a two stage, I believe that is their AR15 model.

The M&P has three different size grip panels that come with the gun helping to accommodate different sized hands.

Not too mention one can send the M&P off to Todd at Customized Creationz and get full length serrations added to the top of the slide. They look sweet!!

Todd does great work. I am actually dropping a Glock slide in the mail today for him to refinish.

I have a sub XD9 and a Glock 22 (full size .40). I prefer the trigger in the XD to the Glock, but I like them both, and both are fun to shoot. But, if your looking for a carry gun, I would look into a Ruger lcp (.380), or a Kel-Tec PF9 (9mm), both of those are small and light and easy to carry, but neither of them are fun to shoot. It really comes down to what purpose your going to primarily use the gun.

Guns are like cars...drag cars suck on a road course, road course cars suck at the strip. You can have a car that does ok at both, but won't excel at either. Guns are the same way, there is no one gun to fit every need. That's why multiple guns is always a good option.

That being said, if you were only going to own one gun, the sub XD9 would be a good choice. But if carry will be the primary use, I have found that the smaller guns are far easier to live with.

I would recommend the XDM 9mm. My father-in-law just got one and it is super nice. Great trigger pull, has 13+1 and 19+1 clips so you can have the sub compact hand grip or the normal compact grip. I would recommend it all day long!

I would honestly advise you to shoot a sub-compact in .40 before you buy, those little suckers bounce all over the place. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against a .40, I just don't like it in that size gun.

Good luck in whatever you choose.

That. 40 round is kinda jumpy in a full size. I am sure it would be a handfull in a real small compact.

well i was supposed to pic one up from a member on here, but i went to the gun show. and i found the lowest price i have seen on one, I picked up a XD compact 40, came with the holster and the hi cap mag and regular one. 469 from a dealer in there, and i just so happened to have the money on me.

Stopped at target world and bought a target and a box and i must say i couldnt be happier with my purchase, yes the trigger pull is slightly longer than i was used to, but the second magazine i was used to it.

My dad also bought the Ruger LCP from the same dealer. And for a little pocket 380 that thing is accurate. has a harder triger pull but a great gun all around. I would recomend the XD and the ruger LCP all day!

Thanks for the imput guys, you good words led me in the right direction with the XD!

very true i have glock 23. with practice you can maintain the gun very well. im a true and tried glock owner but wont knock an other gun as long as it is reliable.

I won't be getting rid of it. Haha 60 yards the thing is pretty accurate for a compact. Your welcome to shoot it and I bet you'd buy a new one. :)

Nice find!

I have an XD-40 and love it. It fits my hands perfect and maybe its just because I'm so used to it, but it feels perfectly balanced in my hand.

Yeah I much prefer shooting my XD over the Kahr. But the Kahr is a perfect carry gun for me. It just disappears.
