02 explorer 4.6 question.

I am working on an 02 explorer and it has ended up needing an engine. Problem is everyone I have called says it's a one year only engine and that I can not use one from a newer model. My question is what is so special about this engine that I can't use an 03+ engine.

Agreed, probably when they swapped injectors or some other stupid thing, just get the engine and swap all the supporting stuff like the intake or whatever else is different from the old one.
