So I have a Tweecer RT and an A9P in the car now. I also have an SD computer and harness in the garage. I know the history of SD and why fox people don't like it, but these days its just as easy to work with as MAF. What I really want to know is there any benefits to switching to SD and tuning that instead of MAF? I ask because you see alot of f body guys going SD so I wonder if the reason they do it can apply to us. Discuss..

I think there are a couple of reasons that SD is still a popular option, especially with racers. Once is the fact that till recently finding a MAF sensor with 1) large enough metering capacity 2) at the same time having enough resolution lower in the range to be able to be tuned for reliably. Another reason is that SD is pretty simple to setup, especially in a drag racing environment when the most important aspect of tuning is WOT. Stand alone SD systems do very well these days with tuning for a variety of scenarios, but you are talking $2000+ setups. Talking specifically about the Fox body arena and stock ECU's, Mass Air setups are superior for tuning, especially once the mods start piling up.

Who offers the ability to tune an 86-88 sd setup?

True, I didnt think about the factory 20 something year old ECU being very limited. MXcoupe, I'm not sure who does but if I remember correctly my tweecer supports the speed density ECU I have. I wasn't planning on swapping back to SD, just something I was curious about.

Ok, figured it was something like that. SD works if you have the ability and patience to tune it, but it takes a lot of dyno or track time and the ability to data log so you can get each cell on the map tuned in.
You can go with a MegaSquirt setup if you wanted it for under $1000 and tunable. It's SD and has an on-board MAP.
