Washed the wife's 2005 Mazda 3 this weekend and got to looking closely at it and found a cluster of rust bubbles at the top of the drivers side rear wheel well. Looked at the passengers side and it's rusting out at the bottom. Car is washed routinely and only has 44k miles on it. So I google it and apparently it's so bad up in Canada that they made the warranty 7 years. Called the dealer today and was told I'm out of warranty so I have to take it up with Mazda. This is bullshit. My 21year old stang is holding up better than a six year old Mazda. I guess I'll call corporate and see where it gets me

buddy has a 2004 or 5 mazda 6 it has a fist sized bubble on the right rear well... kinda sad, cause like you said, my 92 has no rust lol, i have an 01 ranger that has had a paint chip the size of a quater on the edge of the wheele well for 4 years now. and there still isnt the slightest hint of rust anywhere on that trucks body.

They just dont build stuff like they used to. i would be pissed having a car that was only 5 or 6 years old and having rust on it.

And I am glad for it! The old shit is pure shit when it comes to working on it. The problem is the engineering is sound, but it doesn't equate to the real world. But if the automakers did that, it would take 10 yrs to prove out the new designs to assign a warranty timeframe.

Back to the original question, I am not surprised. You live in a known rustbelt state, the rust is only peripheral and not rusted through the panel. Same ideals hold for Dodge. Unless you are experiencing a rust through, you are SOL. It is clearly stated in the warranty materials. I know that is not what you want to hear, but it is how the automakers work.

sad thing is my 2004 lightning is doing the same thing on the bumper. both sides took it to a body shop and to have it fixed is $350-$450. Pisses me off

Man, how old are you? I remember 70's and early 80's cars rusting real bad after 5 to 6 years unless you had the dealer under coat it. Every Late model Nova had rusted out quarter panels by 1980 and EVERY Datsun (now Nissan)would be rusted everywhere after a few years
