How in the HELL do you deal with a 2.5 year old girl who is terrified of anything that even resembles a bug, even if it's just a small piece of dirt, or something like a sesame seed? She FREAKS OUT if she sees something as common as an ant, and c'mon we live in the country so bugs are flippin everywhere especially ants. You have never seen a child have a melt down like this...it's like a damned exorcist in here, everything short of the spinning head and vomit. There is no talking to her, no calming her down, she's absolutely hysterical.
I've gotten little bug toys to try to soften it up some...doesn't help. I even have a tattoo of an ant and she doesn't want anything to do with that either. It's like she has a serious phobia already. I tried to show her you can just step on ants and squish them but that didn't help either. I could handle the fear part if it wasn't for the shreeking screams and hysterical panic that come along with it.

My 10 year brother used to chase me around the yard with various bugs when I was a kid. In guam they have some BIG bugs that are harmless. Really scarred me for life. She's 2.5 ...and a girl, sounds normal to me.

Yeah man i guess i've just never seen a kid flip out like this. You'd have to see her to know what i mean lol. It's a whole different game with a daughter...my son is 8 but when he was that age he would just stomp on them and laugh.

Have you tried an animated movie like Bigs Life or Antz? Maybe that would help her to see they aren't all bad.

We have The Ant Bully but she won't even let us put it in...the whole idea of a kid being shrunk down to the size of ants, or in other words to her it's a movie about ants as big as she is, does not go over well with her. I even picked up a big ant and let it crawl all over my hand and arm and tried to show her it didn't hurt and she just freaked out and ran away screaming.
I wouldn't really be bothered with it so much, except she really seems terrified, not just like throwing a fit but she's hysterical. I almost feel like it's too much anxiety for a child her age to deal with, makes me feel bad :(

I'd ask her doctor what they think you should do. Some kids have these fears and others don't. Doesn't matter if it's a little boy or girl.:tongue2: Kid's see things in different ways than we do AND process things different.

I feel your pain! I have a 7 year old little boy who is frightened to death of bees and wasps. He's never been stung but has the fear of death that he's going to get stung. If one flies any where near him he screams like a little 2.5 yr old girl. We get so frustrated with him but we keep hoping he grows out of it.

My 1.5 year old daughter is such a prissy that if she gets ANYTHING on her hands or feet(such as dirt, mud, sand, sticky from suckers or pop) i mean anything she freaks out and will not stop untill some one cleans it. I think it hilarious. My three year old girl only gets scared if someone points a toy gun at her. Other than that she is fearless.

When my daughter was younger nothing fazed her but spiders . She is now 13 and still does not like spiders but she gets all goofy about bees . We get the big bumble bees around the wooden swing set all the time I just get a tennis racquet and wack the piss outta them . My daughter calls it Bumble Jacking . I have seen her pick up the racquet a few times but she has not had the courage to take a swing yet .

I'll admit as well I am still scared to death of snakes. My wife however, isn't at all. I think she is fearless. LOL!:D
