Anybody know how to remove the square rubber piece holding the rear defogger wire where it goes into the body near the top left side of the hatch on an '85 hatchback? :confused:

Are you talking about the wiring for the complete hatch? the area where the wires pass thru the body to the hatch.

I'm the guy that bought you're hatch.
Yea, the wire comes out of the top of the hatch and enters the top left of the hatch opening. I only have the one wire for the defogger. I don't have a 3rd brake light on the '85, so there's just one wire. That wire enters the body near the upper left of the hatch opening in the body. The wire looks to go through a rectangular rubber piece. I kind of guess I would pry it out of a hole and I assume the connector will be inside the opening. Sound about right?

no, there is not an easy plug where you are looking/talking about ... you need to unplug the wires inside the hatch, looking under the hatch (far left in the lip area, the area that normally rust out, ) and you will see a black rubber plug (cant miss it, large plug) pull the plug out and inside you will see the wiring plug. Unplug and pull it thru the hatch (by pulling on the wire you are currently talking about) and then you will need to fish it back thru on the replaement hatch. That should help you out
