Well, I was having some blow by and I couldn't figure out why. I did a compression test a while back but because I was having this unexplaned issue but at the time I thought it was from having a bad set of heads. Well I finally said enough is enough and pulled the engine again and pulled out the number 5 piston and this was my suprise.

Luckily that I watch and frankly am paranoid about how my car runs, I saved myself a block, heads, rods, crank....you get the idea..

Well I sent this pic to DSS and they acted stupid...lol... I had the guy screaming because I said I was going with another piston because i don't trust their product any more. He was blaming my tune, oil in combustion chamber and everything else. I told him that I know people who have been running with bad heads and smoking up the whole town and their bottom ends were fine. Frankly the guy was talking his self in circles and being stupid.

I buying some diamond pistons and having everything done right locally. I am not messing with mail order shit again unless its just parts.

I still believe in sourcing local on motors especially. Steve Barker does all my machine work and I assemble my own motors. Jegs has the Mahle pistons kits on sale right now and as far as I have seen they are the best. Come with rings and tool steel wrist pins to boot.

I grenaded one after two passes on a 100shot. So much for ever buying another one unless it's dirt cheap.

It looks like the ring gap was to tight. Their pistons are fine but I don't know about their engine assembly skills. I'm with Alan though, when there are plenty of good local resources I would never mail order an engine.

I don't recall who it was that was supposed to have made my short block, but i got carried away the other day and pegged an 8k tach during a burnout and it lived. By the time i let out i'd say it hit about 8500.

i had a d.s.s. 308 and it lived for 3 yrs of beating it up with 125 shot before it decided to twist all 8 rods and broke three pistons....lol it ran really good just my exp. though

I have DSS internals in my block. Dayton Performance built it 13 years ago. So for my money they have made a good product. IM sure the engine builder has a lot to do with it also

yeah back 13 years ago, DSS was one of the best mail order shortblock makers around. But times have changed. I have found out that they order cheap ass materials from china and they just machine them. Used to they sold name brand parts in thier shortblocks as normal sales.

Fact is times have changed and they don't do a good job any more.

He bought the engine complete from dss

I think what he was getting at is that the parts are fine but that the machine work or assembly was lacking.

Yeah, back in the day DSS was one of the best. Now....well not so much. :( I found out the hard way.
