I found a good deal on a predator tuner for my '05 GT but am unsure if it will make a difference seeing as how I have no modifications on it.
So my question is, can I tune a bone stock setup? And if so what can I expect from it?

It can make some small changes, nothing major, might make it feel allittle more responsive. But if you plan on making some other mods maybe you could do a bit more with the tuner.

Yeah the issue is insurance, Mods cost money which raises insurance (if reported) which costs money. So this is one of the only mods I can make performance wise that won't have to be reported to the insurance.

None of it has to be reported to your insurance company. If I reported everything I've done to my car I would need to have them on speed dial.

If I'm not mistaken: for example, if you crash and have a CAI under your hood that you haven't told them about they don't have to cover you. Am I right, idk, but that's what I've heard. Care to shed some light on the situation?

Never heard that before. But If u want your car insured for an additional amount to cover your mods it needs reported.

You might have warranty issues on a new car but I have never heard of anything like that with insurance.

I've not heard that before either. In fact I think I was told that as long as you have receipts for any aftermarket parts, and the repair shop validates the parts match they would be covered.

All the mustangs ive owned were heavily modded, as far as insurance never heard of that, other than what said in another reply about reporting it if you have a huge amount invested. As far as my insurance knew mine were all bone stock, never had one that rare or super nice to get it covered that way. Screw the tuner, start ordering some go fast stuff lol!:bigthumb

You've been mis-informed. Keep your receipts and you should be good. Make sure the Predator is not VIN locked.

If I reported every change to my car to the insurance company I would need a dedicated line for it. I made 3 changes today.

That's the funniest post ever
Talk to Plated, i don't know what's done to his but it runs stout as hell and i think it's pretty much stock for the most part or if it's modded it doesn't have a whole lot done to it. I think he's going like 12.30s or something.

is it a auto or manual? If auto you can see a huge difference in shifting. I would do a CAI & tune you will notice a difference and should be happy for a bit. I dropped almost 2 tenths 1/4 mile with CAI & tune on a 06GT.

He is running a tune, CAI (I gave to him), and 4.10 (or 4.30) on MT DR's (I think). Yes the CAI and tune make a noticeable improvement on the S197. In plated's case the major change is with the gearing. It is a nice bang for the buck. Prior to the 3 valve the MAF was one complete assembly in a housing. THe S197 MAF sensor is mounted in the intake air tube and has no housing. THe inlet tube is the housing. When the CAI is changed to a larger size this also changes air flow. Therefore it is critical and beneficial to have a tuner for the specific CAI being used or have MD, Brenspeed, or someone of your liking tune the car to the CAI you choose. Many shops offer a tune and CAI package deal. The tune will accomodate the MAF to be calibrated for a larger air inlet because of the way the assembly is installed. WIth 04 and before the MAF sensor assembly was already in a housing, so changing the CAI would not have a s drastic an effect nor would it usually require being tuned. Hope this makes sense and helps out.
