That looks like a down shift. I did that when I was a new rider. I recovered and was able to not lay it down. Lesson learned.

did he down shift going into the turn or just way to much rear brake...

I've done that. Except the wrecking part. That was a very aggressive down shift. Something like top of 4 to second would be my guess. Thats what happens when you ride beyond your skill level.

Way to much rear brake , bike started to skid , he target fixated and never recovered. If he would of let off the rear brake and stayed leaned in he would have been fine, he panicked , stood the bike up and you get the end result.
