Watched the new version of the old classic, Arthur last night. If you had never seen the original, it would be-funny. However, the new version isn't even in the same league with the Dudley Moore movie. Russell Brand, somewhat entertaining. Helen Mirren (THE only woman that age that can pull off wearing a bikini and get away with it- not in the movie however) was fairly good, but not in the same league as John Gielgud. There were some lines that were word for word from the first-but flat compared with the original. If, like myself, you are a fan of the original, you will be disappointed. If you've never seen the original, you will find a few laughs. But if you haven't seen the original, go find a copy and prepare to enjoy it.

Saw the previews and thought the same thing, I'm going to just stick with the original.

I thought it was worth watching. If you watch the old one on a high def tv it stinks in comparison.

I recently bought the Blu Ray copy of the original Arthur plus the sequel, Arthur 2: On the Rocks. Looks good on my 50" plasma TV.

I know what you mean. I had it on VHS too. I watched it recently on my HD TV, that's why I then purchased the Blu Ray disc. All better now.

I was just talking with my brother about this last night.
Always thought the original was very good. I like Russell Brand, but i'm mixed on it.
My brother says he watched a few minutes of it then stopped. Said itwas ruining the original for him

I thought it was ok. They changed Liza's character quite a bit. Russel Brand can't play a drunk as good as Dudley Moore. Nick Nolte was good though. Hobson is a male role, and should have stayed that way.
It was made to be politically correct, and it showed. But it wasn't awful.
