$350 plus parts is a huge variable but still dirt cheap if they aren't gouging you on the parts.
I sent you a PM.

A 4r100? so he just put some clutches in it then and possibly a stock converter. Yeah I won't do that.....

Ok. Pm each other for this kind of talk.
I want local shop suggestions that can do the work
I do not want people arguing over part numbers and who got ripped off where.
GO TO THE RANTS FOR THIS
thanks

That was just a rediculously low price, like half of wholesale cost of parts to build the trans. The theory is that frictions in an automatic transmission will never fail if they are being controlled properly. When they fail something else caused it. I'm not arguing I am humoring myself. Realistically how many people would trust a $750 transmission job on a transmission that will range in price from $3000-$5000 at most chain transmission shops or the dealer. I am all for an honest days pay for an honest days work and know those places are banking on this stuff but doing it for 1/5th the price...that doesn't sound normal either. I know why that guy did it at that rate because it obviously is a modified abused vehicle with no warranty at all. I have done those deals. I have avoided those deals and got burnt by that too. It really depends on who you are dealing with. Every builder will have their choice of components and that is what they should use if it works for them. I personally won't touch one of these transmissions without a few things..
Raybestos frictions only. They make several grades but I have never had one peel off like the expensive alto's
Sonnax Sure cure kit...al the parts needed to modify this transmission to extend it's life above and beyond what the factory transmission was capable of...
quality torque converter, price means nothing read the specs. There is a huge market of companies that buy someone elses product mark up the price and sell it as something it is not. Suncoast is at the bottom of the 4r100 food chain. ATS is high on the list. I just haven't sold enough of the high end ones to make rank. I build tons of the mid level units and they are the most common use. There are companies building them using the parts I use and selling them for double or triple the price. It is what it is.
Cooler. The stock cooler cannot be flushed, read the tsbs it must be replaced with a long tru-cool 45,000 gvw unit. There are no other good coolers that is it!
Steel planets, aluminum planets even if they have not failed are worthless at 100,000 miles.
fully splined forward drum, ford pulled one over on us removing half the splines to reverse engineer a failure....
Those parts alone will easily be double plus the $750 cost mentioned earlier and the reason I found it humorous. I'm sure anybody who has dealt with one that they needed to count on will agree with that.

I paid over $2500 for getting mine rebuilt in my 01 F350. It was a mid level build with a billet converter and a big new trans cooler. I also installed a trans temp gauge at the same time. Mine never gets over 180 degrees and works great. I haul some fairly heavy loads regularly with it. This is not something I would go cheap on or just patch up unless you are planning on selling the truck soon.

I had Cottman's in Eastgate rebuild the E4OD in my 95 F-350. I pulled the trans myself and took it up there after talking with them about the plan. The guy that i talked to and did the rebuild was very knowledgeable, and recommended that we switch to some 4R100 parts since they were steel, etc. He also installed an aftermarket shift kit for me, no questions asked. Mind you i bought none of the aftermarket items from them (shift kit, converter) or let them even pull the trans out themselves, and they still gave me the 7,000 mile warranty. i just had to drive it up there after i was finished so that they could visually inspect the install and fluid level. i was pleasantly surprised with how easy it was to deal with them and nice they were, and i'm happy with the way the trans has operated since then. i've put 11,000 miles on it since then, 90% of which was towing a 28ft enclosed w/ racecar in it.
I think my bill from them for the rebuild was around $1000-1200, its been about 2 years.
Hope that helps! :bigthumb
