So i know this doesn't do much for a review since it's over, but i thought i'd throw out my take on the bands there. I got a last minute free ticket, so i was late showing up and missed the two bands i would have liked to see, Unearth and All Shall Parish, so that was a major let down. Of the bands i did get to see, here's the breakdown:
In Flames:
Always puts on a good show, i've seen them twice before. They (much like most bands) sound a lot better indoors, and this wasn't their best show but they stood out among most of the bands there.
Trivium:
Sucked. I don't know if it was their tuning or stage setup or what but all we could hear was drums and bass, the singers vocals were drown out and besides a few good breakdowns they were pretty boring.
Machine Head:
Didn't even watch them play. I've seen them before and don't really care for them.
Megadeth:
I had HIGH hopes for Megadeth...having been a fan since i was a wee little boy, i had never seen them before and you know how it goes with old bands, you never know when the last time will be that you get to see them. They were...ok. Dave, maybe he was having a bad night but he didn't sing so great, and he fucked up more than a few times on the old Rust In Peace songs, which is my favorite album of theirs. Still, i was thrilled to see them live finally.
Godsmack:
This is where stuff got interesting. I'm not a big Godsmack fan...they're a radio band, i'm not a radio listener. I listen to shit like Hester Prynne and Between The Buried And Me, so Godsmack is like easy listening to my ears. However, i must say they kicked serious ass live. I consider myself to be a pretty serious music buff, i know a little about music, so when i say i was impressed...it really means something because i don't have any respect for a band who can't play their shit live, and Godsmack throws down live. Sully is a badass vocalist...he can sing his lyrics note for note, with his real voice that you hear on the albums...that and he can play some drums like a mofo, they brought out a second drum kit and played a sick 10 minute drum solo/instrumental that was the highlight of the entire night, and after that they brought the place down. I would actually pay to see them again, which should say something considering i'm not a big fan of their music. They really deserved to be headlining this tour because........
Disturbed:
Fucking suck. I mean, with a heavy emphasis on fuckin. I've started to like some of their song, so i was pretty anxious to see them live and after Godsmack and feeling like i was given a new perspective on a band that i didn't give any respect, i had high expectations for Disturbed but OMG did they blow. So much so that i actually left half way through the second song, and here's why....if you listen to them, i'm sure you're familiar with how the guy sings...well here's his singing live:
UMUNNUMUNUNMMUNUMANANNANANUM WAAA WAAA UNANANAMUMNAUANUM WA AAA WAA AAA.
Seriously, it's a shame some bands get so much recognition, when any of the bands before them put on a way better show. Supposedly this is their last tour for at least a year and maybe their last tour ever as they may be breaking up. If this is their typical live show, then i understand why. If you can't play your albums live, then you're a step below a bar band in my book.
