I'm going to assume a 5.4?

If it is a 4X4, I see no other way than to raise it up.

4X2, I don't know.

Will a repair type plug, solve the issue?

usually Ford uses some soft metal drain plugs, and they get chewed up pretty quick. Are the threads destroyed in the pan also?

not to get off topic, but ford 16mm drain plugs SUCK. they get ate up fast and many of the pans dont last long either :(
