i swaped the 4.6 engine out of a 97 convert into my 96 it runs for 5 seconds then shuts off is there anyway around the theft system without going back to the dealer????

gotta turn off the PATS in the tune. only way around it

Did you change the computer? If so then put the original one back in.

I'm his brother, no it is the same computer and steering column...everything that we could change over is changed over. i have an sct livewire can i turn off the PATS in that?

If teh steering column, keys, and computer have not been changed then there is something else going on. Will it stay running if you open the throttle a little?

no it dont,all of this stuff was pulled out of a different car and put in this car. im almost positive it is the theft because i was working on a 97 gt of my buddys that had the theft problem and took it to the dealer and had the theft system reprogramed. anthonys car is doing the exactly the same thing plus it has the theft code u1541 and a p1000 code comes up on the code scanner.

If its the pats it shouldnt even start. Mine wouldnt even hit at all.

It could be that something got messed up in the PATS system. If that's the case then you either need to take it to a dealer to have it reprogramed or you will need a tune with the PATS turned off.

They can do it through a chip when they burn it for a tune.

^^^^what he said. You have a tune burned to a chip or loaded in to a handheld programer and there is no need to take the car anywhere.

Does the theft light flash quickly when you are starting the car? If not, then it's not the theft system. If you are getting a code for it, then it could be an electrical issue and turning off the pats won't fix it. I can write a base tune and turn off pats in an SCT programmer, or write it to a chip.

with my PATS on the 96 it would start then die. I read the anti theft part before the rest of it lol sounds like you have something else screwed up. Check all the sensor plugs and make sure non of the wires pushed out.

no not yet it's on going. i think we are going to change out the dash wiring out since that is the only wiring we haven't change yet. hopefully that fixes it otherwise i will bring my SCT livewire to Bell and see if that works.

so we didnt have the engine grounded good when we grounded it it still died but it now revs when you hit the gas but dies right after before it wouldnt rev we are checkin all wire and connectors and hopefully we can get it started this weekend fingers crossed

AIC connected properly electrically AND piping ? Car will not hold an idle if this is not hooked up. had an issue with that on my 02. Good luck.

i was told that the PAT is its own box under the dash and not through the computer is this right and would i have to change the boxs that are under the dash

Woo..it's fixed the red car itself was missing a PATS box so swapped the V8 one into it. Problem now is there is nothing working on the istrument panel except the battery light. Does anyone know what pins on the connectors in the back are supposed to have power and which are not? We have only to pins on the black connector that has any power, Zero on the white connector.

So it runs great now...he traded the car to me and i have some problems to fix on it. The instruments still don't work but i think a fused must be blown. the only light that works is the battery light. also need a coolant tank and an a/c delete kit and i can have it be able to be driven. if you know anyone with that stuff pm me please.
