After dealing with some other issues I finally got a chance to put everything together and then get it in. Not completely lined up yet but a very good start to it.

Should receive the carb on Tuesday. Bought a brand new Holley HP 950 for half the cost of new, couldn't pass it up. That was even with shipping. More photo's to come as I progress, if things go to plan I will have this running this year.

I was contemplating it quite a bit but at the time I was set on running E85.
This happened to pop out at me while researching and couldn't pass it up for the price being new.
How is your car coming?

No pictures but made some progress on the car this weekend. Installed the drive shaft safety loop, marked the preliminary areas needing to be cut out for the motor plate mounting tabs and finally decided where to mount the ignition and switches. Only thing that I really hate is the fact that the Scott Rod panels on the frame rails need to be cut to mount the motor plate. Measured to get the needed length for my drive shaft to be shortened.

I have some up dated photo's but haven't been able to get them posted yet. I have the interior dash, center console etc. almost where I need it to wire everything in. Started on bleeding the brakes, got the engine and trans close to where I need it to attach the engine plate and possibly the mid plate (not sure if I'm going to use it yet), order my fuel pressure regulator, fuel distribution block, fittings and black nylon hose. The rear deck lid is in the process of hinges being made to work and then the wing installation. The suspension is close but needs some fine tuning and then on to the alignment. Just trying to do the best with what I have to move this thing along before I need more outside help. I even purchased a Lincoln Pro-Mig welder to help with some of it. I will keep the updates as I go, hoping to have this running in August and possibly at the track come September for some good cool air. I have also decided to have the radiator fitted for AN fittings to help prevent any unforeseen. I replaced the driver's door hinge pins and installed the door, it works great and has nifty door handles that are a little more aerodynamic than the factory. I think I'm also going to remove the door mirrors to help with any resistance while zeroing in on the 1/4-mile but when the time comes, I will have to re-install them.

Thanks, It's been a long road but it will all be well worth it. Been delayed on expected completion time but it's all good. It will be running this year but just may not be at the track until next spring, we will see. Even if I get it running I want to get it to the chassis dyno to play with some combination's on a few things, want to get the most out of it but want it to last as long as possible.

Thanks to everyone that has been a positive influence during this build, Thanks

Some minor progress on the car. Engine and trans lined up for its final positioning, mid plate and engine plate are completely mounted in, fuel pump is now mounted, valve covers and headers flanges milled down to fit together. Still working with the header on the passenger side to fit but should be good soon.

I have been thinking about this car a whole lot and what I should do with it, it currently has no wiring but I have the complete factory wiring harnesses. So I think I want this to become more of a Wild Street Car and take it to the cruise ins and car shows. Doesn't mean I won't race it but ultimately I want it to be a street car again.

I couldn't agree with you guys more, the enjoyment the family and myself will have with this will be much more than if it was just a trailer queen. My daughter and youngest son love to sit in it and act if they were driving it. Imagine their faces when they actually can drive in it, Grins from ear to ear. My oldest son is going to Butler Tech this year for Auto Tech because he wants to become a little more savvy with this type of stuff, good on him.

I have made a couple small steps in moving this forward. I have already committed to several individuals on here to having this running this coming spring, can't let them down and most importantly, myself. Here is the photo of the Florida 5.0 instrument dash cluster, just missing a speedo, going to call Auto Meter today about that.

If I don't work this Saturday and IF I can get finished Friday what I helped Adam @ S&M Motorsports start this past Tuesday (or at least get a good start on it Friday evening) I may be able to come help you some on Saturday afternoon. That assuming as well my wife doesn't have anything planned for us. One of these days however I need to get off my arse and paint the ceiling and walls in the living room that has been repaired since it fell in back in April. Still have all the pictures and stuff laying in the back bedroom. Hate the thought of having to mask off to paint because she wants yellow walls with a white ceiling.

Just read the entire thread and looked at all the pics. Yes, I understand what you were saying about the door handles now. Car looks incredible. You are taking your time and doing it right. Keep it up! Can't wait to hear it light up. Put the stock dash harness back in and body wiring. Everything will work and it's easy to get power and ignition power for your electronics that way too. Made some more progress today, no pictures but I did accomplish to get the fittings needed for the oil pressure gauge from the block and the 90* elbow I needed for the fuel pressure gauge off of the regulator all hooked up. Have the wiring from the starter solenoid to the starter finished as well. I'm going to put oil in the engine and pull the spark plugs to turn it over by the starter switch, it should go well and show me some oil pressure prior to starting it. If all goes well, I should almost be in the position to start the car this weekend, I say almost because I do not have any fuel or the exact plugs needed but that is a minor detail. Lol

Anyone have some race fuel they would be willing to give me to fire this up, I need about 10 gallons?

I understand what you are saying but I have to look at this way, do I want to be cutting, drilling and possibly damaging a $5k paint job to make everything fit? No
I would rather figure everything out now and then pull it apart to paint it, then bolt everything back together, less chance of damaging the paint job afterwards.
It will be a lot of work but it will be worth it, doesn't mean that I may not still hurt something but it should be minor at that time.

Well, I finished up a couple more things this evening, the car will be ready to start this weekend. Working on getting at least 10-gallons of race fuel, this will be the only thing to prevent me from starting it this weekend.

Rick93coupe
02-21-2015, 02:45 PM
Does it actually need race gas to start and run? There's not going to be any load on the engine at idle or free reving.

I don't know, I'm just asking.

2Fast4You
02-21-2015, 02:53 PM
Not sure about just to start, idle or reving it. It's a 13.5:1 engine and I just do not want to take any chances on hurting something. Way to much money and time into this thing to take a chance.

draggin50
02-21-2015, 02:57 PM
That's kinda what I was thinking about the fuel also. With no load I think it would be fine, but I agree about not wanting to hurt it also. No reason to chance it.

I talked to Rob Kropfeld yesterday and he said that he should have some but I haven't heard from it yet today. If all else fails, without a load on it, it may be Ok to run 93 just for a start up.

draggin50
02-21-2015, 05:49 PM
Yeah Id say the 93 and maybe even adding some Octane boost would be ok to just start it.

All I have to say is, you guys suck, Thanks for the pick me up.
Had to leave after posting this today to go and pick the kids up from a friends that they stayed the night at. We had dinner there and then just recently returned home.
To late to try and actually start the car but I did put the plugs back in and turned it over, while turning it over I did turn the ignition on and it did a few rumbles.
Can't wait for tomorrow and to actually start it to let it run for a while.

Well, with the new day came some new issues. The MSD 7Al-2 ignition box I had took a dump prior to being able to start it. I shipped out the 7AL-2 yesterday back to MSD to evaluate for repair, if someone has something laying around I wouldn't mind borrowing something to get this thing running?

Now you have this to read Brian, Lol

02-28-2015, 11:07 PM
Well, didn't make as much progress as I would have liked on this today. Couldn't get this thing to want to fire even with the borrowed MSD ignition and now knowing I had good spark. After doing multiple things and spending hours on trying to figure it out, I decided that I would try the race fuel and ditch the 93 octane. Best decision I made all day on it, once I did that it now wants to run. I need to tend to a few things and then it should be ready to go, I will then take a video of it running and post it for everyone.

Had to make some changes on the fuel lines from 8an to 6an to allow the throttle bracket to fit, I still had to grind down some of the bracket to get the fuel line to clear. Getting things done slowly but surely.

So I was tired of making a mess on the garage floor with the coolant, so I did this. Mounted it inside the driver's front fender, keeps it clean under the hood and it is functional. I can still keep an eye on it while I'm under the hood. What do you think?

The only thing I see that may be bad is if the hose pops off or it breaks and spills under the tires. That wouldn't be good!!!

2Fast4You
03-12-2015, 11:47 PM
I thought about that as well but not sure there is any true spot to mount it that some coolant may not affect that. The best bet would be the center of the engine compartment then, I guess it could be mounted in front of the radiator, just wouldn't be as clean looking under the hood.

draggin50
03-13-2015, 12:18 AM
I had an aluminum overflow and Gary welded it right to the radiator. Very clean looking and about 8 inches of hose running to it. I don't know if I got any pictures of it but Ill check.

Just a small update but no photos to show at this time. Getting ready for the Stang to make one more trip to the chassis shop (Rogue Racecars), hopefully this will be the final trip for quite some time.
First, the 9" housing end that is welded onto the 8.8 has a pinhole leak, needs to be fixed.
Second, the 8.8 is going to get the Team Z reinforcement kit installed to keep the axle tubes from twisting under heavy acceleration.
Third, the rear end is going to get a wishbone installed to keep the 8.8 straight under heavy acceleration.
Fourth, mounting of the GM 1-wire alternator to keep power coming to the system, brackets and spacers will need made for this.
Fifth, need to look at modifications to my existing trans cross member, my 3 1/2" exhaust will not fit with the current one.

Jegs and Summit sell a one wire alternator that is in a Ford housing. Should make mounting it a lot easier. I used the gm style on my big block Mopar and had to make brackets but would have saved time to use stock style mounting brackets.

This has a motor plate so the standard brackets will not work in this application.
