Well I've had my 88 merkur for quite some time (actually the longest car I've ever owned), and the car has been dead reliable even tho it has almost 230k on it. Lol. The car is a mono white 88 xr, 5spd. The car factory comes set on 15psi with 13 degrees of timing, with a 3.64 gear. Well i drove the car as mywork car and kinda dirtied it up a little, and i kinda feel bad now. Lol. The car eventually got the exhaust removed, a turbocoupe intercooler, good gas and the boost turned up...just a tad to 22psi. The car didn't run horrible but was by no means a race car. Well after a year of no issues other than the standard oil changes, I went to back out of the driveway and she spit out reverse...and there she sat. She has been there for around 2 months. Well now its time to fix it and I'm gonna do it right. I have planned a few bolt ons and a t5 swap. These cars came with a junk European tranny (t9). Unlike their t5 counterpart they use rubber bushings in place of metal sleeves and bearings, which makes power shifting impossible...and yes I have tried. Lol. The parts I have as of far are...
Cossie rs500 intercooler
Merkur depot shorty radiator
Merkur depot 3" downpipe
Bo port stage 3 ported lower intake
Gutted and rotated upper intake
3g alternator swap
Rewelded ebay turbo manifold
Forge bov
Now there is still a lot of stuff I need to buy like a tranny, clutch, driveshaft and suspension parts. I'm also hoping to find a nice set of draglites for it...but we will see how it goes. Pics will be up soon...
