I am down to my last issue before getting my beater back to the track...

I decided to switch from a spool to a strange 33 spline Strange differential to make it a little more streetable...

Anyways...here is the current perdicament...apparently Moser 33 spline axles do not work with Strange 33 spline differentials...I just got my axles back from the machine shop that are now drilled for 5/8" studs and to my rear wheel bolt pattern...should i just get strange axles and keep the diff, or go with an Auburn diff and keep the axles?! What do you all think the strongest combination will be?

I believe you just need to go the route that is the least exprensive in this case. So with that said, axles are going to less expensive than a new diff.

It is hard to say, the carrier may be about the same as the axles it is a toss up and you don't want to buy weaker parts. You should be able to sell what you don't use as well.

Yeah, the diff was ~$600 and new axles are looking like they are going to be another $450 or so...just dont want to get something weaker just to save a couple dollars at this point...

Either way, should have a diff or axles for sale soon! haha

What doesnt work ???? Sounds like user error!!

I'm also curious to hear what ended up being the issue.

Yeah, pretty much!

Def not user error...but thanks for playin'!

Basically, moser axles are bigger in diameter...the 33 spline is just that, the number of splines, not necessarily how large the axle is...SO, just trying to see what the best [strongest] combination will be...

I told them to price me out axles with my specs for their dumbass posi unit and have yet to hear back...this was yesterday morning...no respnese yet...gay!

I can't remember if mine are Strange or Moser but I believe both are in the mid 4's for your setup. If the diff is already installed and setup, I would definitely just buy axles.

Spool lol.And it would be cheaper.

I ran a spool on the street for 4 or 5 years and feel like that is a big reason I wrecked...so going the differential path this time...

But yes, spools are MUCH cheaper lol

Can't they machine the axles down to fit? I would do it with a grinder but that's just me. Lol

The surface should be tempered if you machine it you lose that.

Strange was checking into that at first and then decided they didn't want to mess with it...most likely bc they see a chance at selling some more axles...

I would just get their axles. You can get a part number and either myself of Craig can get them in for you at maybe a better deal than buying retail from strange. I would never even consider Auburn with all the issues I had with them in my orange coupe, I went with Eaton and never looked back, same with Detroit lockers, they are solid when it comes to a posi unit.

Good to know! I'll keep the strange diff and get their axles...I almost made an impulse buy on the Auburn diff last night bc it would be the quickest turnaround on getting this thing finished up...It's been 2 years already so whats another week or so i guess...hahaha thanks for the info!

I am now being told they do not make an axle for my application...what the eff?!

I don't know what to do at this point...they are just going to send my parts back to me and I guess i'll have to go to plan c lol

Should have kept the spool! FML

So if they don't make an axle for it what can be done with the unit? How far off are the splines?

I'm going to have to sell it or see if Jegs will take it back i guess...

I think it's a matter of the axle diameter more than the shape of the splines.

This makes no sence to me... Id like to see what the issue is with my own eyes, let me know when i can come check it out.

WTF? How can they sell a diff and make no axles that fit it??? I would ask to talk to someone else, that makes ZERO sense.

Dirtyd0g

I think you need to contact the manufacturer of the diff and find out what they say to use. There has to be parts to fit it.

That's what he's saying he did. It's a Strange diff.

Yeah, Strange has my crap right now...I'm prob just going to tell them to ship my shit back and just run a spool again...tired of fucking with this heap

I'm blown away that they don't have an axle for you??? I'm guessing the 9" ends are what's messing them up? You'd think they'd still be able to make an axle that fits those ends and works with your diff.

I think the issue is in the inner not outer... but still that would be a brg problem not a carrier problem..

I understand that the issue is the inner part of the axle not fitting into the diff. What I'm saying is that Strange probably has an axle to fit the diff but not with the proper ends to work with 9" ends. That makes me wonder how "custom" their axles really are.

I'm going to get rid of their diff and go back to a spool...There isn't a doubt in my mind they can make an axle that will work...i'm not the only dipshit that wastes all of their money on a Mustang!
