I've found now that I can get the best prices on Royal Purple on Amazon.com. If you are an Amazon Prime subscriber then you can get free shipping. Prior to this I got Royal Purple from International Parts Store on Woodman in Dayton. In 05 I could buy 5w20 by the case for $5.35 a quart. The last time bought it, I think I paid over $8.50 a quart. My amazon order was $91. Looks like the price has gone up a bit since September and its now $104 for a case. http://www.amazon.com/Royal-Purple-12520-API-Licensed-Performance/dp/B000BO0532/ref=sr_1_1?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1320780361&sr=1-1

Walmart, mobil1, 5qt jug, $20, done.

Seems like the last time I bought one of those it was closer to $25 but still a good deal compared to other places.

I think conventional oil<mobile1<Royal Purple<Royal Purple XRP<Amsoil.

The price of course increases with each step up the oil ladder. Also keep in mind that just because you run synthetic, doesn't mean that it will be any better in the long run than conventional oil if you don't keep the oil clean. Even with extended oil change intervals, you need to change the filter on a regular basis to keep the oil cleaner longer.

I use Rotella T6, full synthetic in everything. It's worth a checking into. It's also really inexpensive at Wally world.

Walmart is the best deal I have found I run penzoil 10 30. The regular price beats the parts stores price on sale. Our oreillys rep even said he buys his oil at walmart. That's sad.

Ford Motorcraft 5w20 synthetic blend, 5qt jug, $20, done.

What kills me, is that just a few years ago, a complete oil change in my '99 GT cost $13.00 without tax. A jug of Motortcraft was $9.99 and a Motorcraft FL820S filter was $2.99 ($2.50 on sale).

As far as Amsoil, it's like $80 a year to become a preferred customer. You get a hefty discount like that.

On a side note, I do know an Amsoil dealer...at least he was a couple of years ago. I can check with him, he always gave me great prices on it.

We had a recall on some of the synthetic lucas oil at autozone. I snagged a case and a half for 419 a qt. Some autozones still have them if you get lucky to find some.
