Ok, since I work at a big truck dealership, I'm constantly around high boosting engines. I'm also handling these big ass turbo's for anything from a mercedes deisel engine in a box truck to a twin turbo assembly for a big Cat motor. This being said, I'm constantly wondering how one of these would work on a 5.0 or windsor. I know I have heard some fella's use the HX-35- and HX-40 Holset turbo's from a B series Cummins on different gasser builds, as well as putting a Detroit Deisel 60 series turbo on a powerstroke motor and had great luck and results. But wondering what others might have heard/seen from their own experiences. I think you guys know where I'm kinda going with this. I've wanted a boosted car for YEARS, and this is probably the most affordable way for me (since I get shit at cost lol). So the doors open, let the information flow in lol!:bigthumb

^^^Kinda what I'm starting to think. I'm freshening up a stock bottom end, and P top end for it. Just thinking a cheap boost set-up might be a lil fun. I go through this every winter lol, but the itch is getting stronger each time.

When talking in terms of complete cost in doing a turbo kit, saving a few hundred bucks to go with a turbo that is not properly sized for your engine doesnt make much sense.

Honestly man I'd save up and get the base on3 kit. You can always upgrade the turbo, wastegate, bov and whatever else you want when $ permits. Trust me cutting corners on a turbo car will make u a member of the sittin on jackstands club really quick.

^^^Been a member of that club before lol. I know I know, just tossing this idea around again. I know what the On 3 kits cost, which isint that bad. But I also hear a bunch of people bitching about fitment and quality.

I'm running a 16cm HX35 on my 2.3, your going to need twins HX's on a V8 to not run out of steam up top.

Turbo and cheap dont go together. Custom turbo kit is the only way to go.

Walter, I thought homemade was custom lol... Keeping in mind, I'm no rookie at fabbing and building. I would never take on a project I didnt think I couldnt handle. But I guess what keeps me in this mindframe, is it's easier to do something a lil at a time, rather than all at once...

i can put one of there kits on in a day, unless your front end is tweaked fitment is not an issue at all, there revised kits actually fit really good. The worst part is getting the intercooler to fit behind your bumper cover right.

Stay away from this stuff . http://www.ebay.com/itm/Turbo-Kit-Mustang-Cobra-79-95-302-V8-5-0L-Exhaust-Vband-/130545969995?hash=item1e65256b4b&item=130545969995&pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr I thought I would try something cheap for the hotside part to see if I liked it . Well I do but now the cheap ass stainless is cracking all to hell . Its been fixed twice allready and now it almost broke completely in half at the turbo mounting flange .I doubt if i have 4000 miles total driving on it .

hx 50 i believe is a 3 inch compressor wheel, or 76 mm. just finding a smaller turbine housing from a diesel is a little tough.

I have some truck/heavy equipment stuff too and thought the same thing. Seems all the diesel stuff is big and real heavy. Also since diesels turn such low RPM's it just seems like they might spin thier guts out at car RPM's.

I'm wanting a On3 I think. I'm a bit hesitant on the issues you mentioned too. Even at 1500 bucks by the time you do the other mods/tune you will have a good amount og $ invested, I assume $2500ish?

^^I agree, but at the same time it does get you in the boost game. A fella could upgrade peice by piece as his wallet permits. I like playing with the toys, but my bills and family come first. So I do it lil at a time, and the wifey doesent complain lol.
