I have been having problems with my carb. Got it fixed and decided to mess with the time. Why because Im a dumbazz. So I brought the car up to top dead center and reset the dizzy. Went to crank it over and nothing, I planned under with timimg for awhile until i forgot the screw driver in the hole. Damn it bent screw driver and dead cylinder 1. What are your thoughts. Im so bummed out. What do you think I should do? Im freaky out right now.

After you put the plug back in, you ran it and had the dead cylinder? If so is atleast pull the head and see what gave.

Do a compression check.

Ouch sorry to here this!! Pull the head maybe you will get lucky and you just bent a valve.

That would be nice if its just a valve.

Leakdown will tell the tale before you pull the head

Hate to see you go through the trouble pulling a head in the car if it's the piston... Then you have to pull the motor anyway

mustang_gt88
12-03-2011, 06:03 PM
i can hear th compression coming thur the dissy area

draggin50
12-03-2011, 06:33 PM
Sounds like a piston might have a hole in it.

Mustard

Hey explorer motors are easy to find. Might be a way to get a cheap fix until you can build the motor that you want.

mustang_gt88

Thats not a bad ideal

i have a full set of stocked forged pistons. but they are blown96cobras on here i havent given them to him yet... pm him you just want a piston and see if hell sell you one and ill deliver :D

mustang_gt88

I just got done pulling engine and the piston is scuffed up but no cracks or holes. The exhaust valve on the #cylinder is cracked up alittle. By this I mean i can see light. Looks like a bent rod what do you think?

If the valve is cracked that's obvious, if it's bent it wont sit flush in the seat. You could replace that valve and have it fixed but if it's stock heads It's probably not worth the investment.

I'd say you got really lucky!

Cheapest would be Explorer motor. You can pick them up for like 350-400. Check out car-part.com. Marshalls in Centerville has them listed for 350.

I think you should buy my GT40P's...

All kidding aside, how many miles are on the motor? You need to decide whether or not you want to freshen it up. IMO there's no real good reason to buy pistons and bore it out if it's not a tired worn out motor.

When I bought the motor the guy said it had around 56k on rebuild. So it should be around 57k now.

If ur lookin for cheapest route regular gt40s cuz depending on what headers you have u might have to buy diff ones with the p's. Get some regular ones and have them milled .020 for around 60$ to raise compression a lil and put her back together.

mustang_gt88
12-05-2011, 10:54 AM
I have the FRPP headers I think they are the ones that work with p's. That sounds like a good ideal

331lx
12-05-2011, 11:48 AM
Well u will be good with p's then I think
