I am looking at installing 4.10 gears in my 08 gt. I have heard it really makes a difference, it currently has a 331. I have 2 questions.
1. Is there a major difference between brands: ford racing, Moser, Motive, richmond etc? I can get the ford racing the cheapest. My car does not have a lot of work, just exhaust, intake and tune and there are no plans for major performance bolt ons like turbos or superchargers. So I do not have to worry about it being bullet proof. But I do not want to put junk in it either.
2. when I have it installed should I by the installation kit that comes with barrings, gaskets etc? Car has just under 20,000 miles on it.I just want to make sure it is done right the first time. I also do not want something that is really noisy. I appreciate any input, thanks.

I had 4.10s in my 06 with pretty much the same mods and it helped it get out of it's way. Cincy speed installed mine in a day so I think they were Richmond brand. Mine had absolutely no added noise. I also got the diablosport tuner at the same time which you might want to think about too. Have fun!

Thanks for the input still wanting to find out if manufacturer matters and if i need to utilize the installation kit with bearing, gaskets etc. Thanks! I do have a SCT Turner already.

Use the Ford Motorsport gears and have them installed professionally. The other choices mentioned will however work!..If dissasembled utilizing the correct tools you can reuse the pinion bearings. The carrier bearings on a 2008 should still be in good shape and I use silicone to seal the cover when I'm done instead of the gasket..The small tube of loctite in the kit can be purchased seperately and all shops will have it already on hand! The money you save not purchasing the kit will help offset the cost of installation. You'll like the 4.10's...

I agree on the frpp gears, when done by someone who knows what they are doing you won't hear them at all. Motives and richmonds are hit and miss, the cheapo ebay gears are JUNK! I have used Randy's Ring and pinion "yukon" gears many times in the past. They used to be identical to FRPP now they look like the ebay junk.

Byron go with the frrp gears BUT check the part #. Motive also is packaged in frrp kits their part number with ford racing ends in [B]M.[B] Motives are hit and miss. Make sure to replace the crush sleeve when doing the swap. Cincy Speed will do well, try Finish Line as well. 4.10s are great in 3v manual cars.

Forget about a crush sleeve use a solid pinion spacer. Good call on the frpp gears I wasn't thinking to mention that, it does matter.

is yours a 5 speed or auto? I was just wondering if there would be different gear recommendations for each?

Thanks all, I was liking the FRPP gears due to price, I can get them cheaper than the others. Thanks for all the input, I just wanted to make sure they were good quality before I get started. No big rush on this finally have the exterior done and want to do some things to pep it up a little. Thanks again for the input.

4.30's would seem a bit much on the highway (RPM wise), how's the 4.10's?

My 4.10s seemed kind of tame. I think at 65-70 I was in the 2500 area. If you do some research online most people say on the 05-10 5 speeds you can get away with 4.30s. I would've had them, but they forgot to order them and had the 4.10s in stock...
