Im looking to spend around $700 for a really good bike. I want a full supspension bike but the local shops are around $1500 or so. Im a motocross rider so Im going to be jumping it and putting it through some abuse. Is there a good website dedicated to selling mountain bikes? What type of bike would you recommend (best bang for the bike, full suspension vs front supsension only)?

Might get an ok hardtail for 700. Reser bikes in Newport will take care of you.

Also, that Spec 29er and a Trek 4300 would be horrible for jumping. The frame geometry is of the cross country variety. They would be very twitchy and unstable in the air, not to mention the awkward riding position. In the All-mountain hardtail world, id recommend :

Transition Trans Am
Santa Cruz Chamelion
Ragley Blue Pig

These frames are between 4-600. Good bikes are not cheap, and cheap bikes dont last. Full susp can go into the thousands.

Id love to have a full suspension I just cant see myself droppig over $1500 for a "bike". Maybe Ill sack up and buy one before spring. I found a brand new 4300 with disk brakes for $400 and was going to start with that. Im not sure how far Im going to go with jumping since I got taken out on my street bike at 60 mph and slammed into a hill then the bike slammed into me. I had four plates and a dozen pins in my arm and major road rash on my knee. Im not sure if my arm can handle it yet. I started working out again to build it back up but its a slow start. Is there any close out websites of left over bikes? The most I want to go is maybe $900 for a full suspension bike.

Pick up the 4300 and see if you like biking. You may think its just ok or you may love it. Bikes are like anything else, you get what you pay for. I mean, I once knew a lady that spent 10k on a sewing machine. So it is what it is. Do some research and see what is available on the market, a good resource is www.mtbr.com

FYI, all-mountain is a term describing a single do it all bike. Typically 130-160mm of susp travel, slack headtube angle and generally a robust build. Its a bike that can handle big drops, pedal uphill and hit downhill runs.

ok cool. Ill check out the websites and if I dont find anything Ill pick up the 4300. I went to eastfork a few times last year and barrowed one of my friends cheap spare bikes and had a blast. I like going as fast I can through the trails. Besides there isnt very many jumps at Eastfork which is where I will go most of the time considering I live very close.

Plenty of good trails to ride in the area. LMK when you ride, I can usually round up a few people.

Not much in the winter. You dont want to tear up the trails.

2010 Fisher Piranha:
Manitou Minute Pro fork
Mavic Crosstrail wheels
LX crankset

2011 Rocky Mountain Slayer 50:
'12 Fox Float 36 RLC FIT fork

sportymamabikes, but I think it's bikeisland now.

I've bought 2 bikes from her, love them both. She's the cheapest around, but limited on brand selection.

It should be frozen in the morning this Sunday if anyone wants to hit up eatfork around 8. We have a few people going already. As long as it gets cold enough. I can't wait untill spring.

Keep your eyes peeled on Craigslist. I picked one up off there a few months ago. I'd probably sell it honestly, I've only ridden it one time. I'd rather ride quads.

Biowheels in Maderia or Smytty's in Fairfax are the two shops that I usually go to. Reser in Newport is a great shop also.

If you are looking at the Trek's - stop in the Trek store in Blue ash and ask for Rick (my brother-in-law). He may be able to get you hooked up with some killer deals.

Anyone know a place to get a frame painted? I goind a Specialized M4 rock hopper with full suspension. Only issue is it has a dime size chip on top of the frame. I haven't picked it up yet but I plan on it if I don't find a better deal.

You're worried about a chip on a mountain bike?????
There should be many more to come.

Cuz the paint was kind of rough and powder coat would last longer than paint. I decided I'm going to get a brand new Trek Remedy.

Where is everyones favorite place to ride? I live very close to east fork. I plan on spending allot of my time there. I want somewhere with some jumps and drops. East fork doesn't have any.
