Anyone know how to degree cams on this motor? I have a brand new 5.0 striker Sherlock and had the heads redone with stage 3 comp cams. I guess lining the dots up with the timing links is not enough?

Here is a right up on degreeing cams.

The process is more or less the same for a 2V or a 4V it's just much more time consuming on the 4V.

So I read those instructions. I think I'm going to have to pay someone to come over and do this for me that knows what they are doing and has the proper tools. any recommendations on someone I can have do this for me?

Im thinking its gonna be very time consuming and expensive. I was told by a few people its not worth the time or money. My 2 cents

Good luck getting someone to do it at your shop. I have been asked to do it a few times and the plain truth is people don't understand what is required and how easy it is to forget a simple tool. Spending 3 days driving back and forth to go get a simple little tool is not worth the time. Figure out who you want to do it and take it to them.

Maybe ill just assume that the timing is good enough. I would have a hard tone loading everything up in my 335.

It must be done perfect and is time consuming, but it VERY worth it, and would be silly not to spend the money and do it after you bought a motor and good cams.

I just did the head gaskets on my 04 Cobra. I went through the same thoughts you are right now. If you want to get the most out of you motor, then I would have them degree'd or learn how to do it yourself. But If you just want to get it back on the road then lining up the dots is fine. Thats what I did. It runs just as good as it did before. I didnt have the time or the means to degree the cams. I think Dirtydog offered to do it for me if I brought it to him. Thanks Dirtydog. He gave me alot of helpfull advice. I would also be comfortable taking it to Adam. He also gave me alot of helpfull advice. Thanks Adam. I got alot of helpfull advice from alot of people on here. Thanks to all. I think it takes about 4 to 6 hours to degree 4v cams. Depends on your experience. If I can help in anyway let me know. Dont hesitate to ask anything. Good luck.

Thanks for all the incite guys. BES is doing the heads and they did not seem overly concerned with degreeing. Maybe I'll give Adam a call

Stock cam timing sucks badly and is the only reason 4vs need steep gears. To give you an idea, 4vs make the most peak power and tq when the intake cams are at a 108 lobe center, most intake cams however are around 119 from the factory.
Send me your email address and I'll send you some instructions.
Degreeing/advancing the stock intake cams on an 03/04 can increase tq as much as 30ft lbs.
BES knows that degreeing the cams is very important.

Forced induction can cover for poor cam timing; want power, just add more boost. N/A combos are not as forgiving. Degreeing the cams rarely add a lot of peak power, but when advancing them they will always add a good amount of mid range power and tq.
Below is a graph showing the power made by a stock Mach engine with "undegreed" 96-98 cobra intake cams compared them being degreed and installed at a 108 lobe center (exhaust set at 110). Additionally, advancing the intake will reduce the rpm where peak power is made, especially with the very low duration 03/04 intake cams.
The combo below is shifted at 6500 so the earlier power drop off wasn't a problem. If the intended shift point was 7000 I would have recommended the exhaust cams be moved to a 118 lobe center.

Na SVT is the man, When it comes to mod motor tech. I read and digest everything he says on other forums. How is your Boss intake coming on your Navi motor?

The first 5.4 with a Boss 302 intake should be running in the next couple weeks.
