I'm in the market and considering selling my redfire 05 GT Saleen Supercharged mustang coupe and getting a 03/04 Cobra SVT Convertible. First is there anything to be aware of other the obvious? I am wanting a bone stock unit or at least one that has not been modded beyond x-pipe/exhaust/CAI/2.93" pulley/tune at most. Anyone have any idea on the life expectancy on the S/C 4.6 32V engine with these mods? How does the indepent rear axle hold up over time with meium driving and a trip to the strip a couple times a year on street tires (no slicks)? Would a Cobra stock with say 75K on the OD be still considered young enough to mod to the level described (assuming proper maint has been kept)? Just trying to get a feel.

Thanks in advance.

man my car has 90k on it and it has full boltons ported charger and a 175 shot of spray and it still runs awsome no issues here. i had another one with 80k no problems and my buddy has 119k on his and it stil runs great. as for the irs be sure to put the diff brace on it because ive seen a few of them bust the housing. just be shure to do a carfax that will tell u alot. i would have no problem buying one with those miles.

My 04 had a ported eaton, exhuast, pullies, your basic bolt ons and 39k miles on it when I bought it a couple years ago. I suspect it had a ruff life before I got it but for the year I owned it I beat it like a rented mule. It made several trips to the track and raced everything on the street that tried me. Even my wife gave it hell the times she drove it! It had 50k miles when I got rid of it and was still going strong. I never had to put a thing in the car but gas. They are super well built and I too am in the market for another if i dont step up to a GT500 instead.

Appreciate the feedback guys, thats all I needed to know. Thinking about buying a mystichrome convertible that has 72K on it. And I do carfax and/or other means of checks before purchasing. Thanks.

I think I know the exact car you are talking about. A woman had it for sale awhile then it ended up at a dealership. I think she had bought it new

I traded it in last year to beef on a brand new fusion hybrid for my wife to DD and blowncobra on here bought it right away. The last I saw it was for sale at a dealer that specialized in cobras called High-End Auto in VA. http://www.hi-endauto.com/

You can run twinscrew blowers at 20+ psi on 100K+ mile stock longblocks. 03 Cobras are the shit.

Here's a 170K mile example:

I to saw that mystic for sale before the dealer got it lady in Riverside I do believe it is a one owner car she brought it in to Planet Ford once back in the day changed the oil for her. It had a flow master cat back and BBK cai that was it at the time. Almost sure it is the same used to see her drive it on woodman in Kettering to.

Thanks for the update. Think if it dries up out I will pay the place that has the car a little visit and see how it looks in person. Then it all depends on what they will do for me on mine.

Honestly I would negotiate I knw mystic is rare but they have had that car for a while. As well as I would try to see if you could sell your car versus trading good luck post up pics when you get one.

Yes they have had that vehicle since last fall. I have to see it before I make any decisions. NADA retails the car at 19800 dealer trade value 16400. And its not worth 19800 to me without seeing it, and then I'm not paying full retail. THey can keep it another 6 months before that happens. At least its one of the few one owners in the country. So many lower mile mystichromes have had 4-5 owners with only 30K on them in some cases. I prefer a redfire or yellow one if I can find it. Mineral Gray would be nice as well. Either way the mods need to be slim to none. I want to do them all myself. Thanks.

Stopped in and looked at the 04 Mystichrome today. Yes its the one bought by a man/lady from Riverside Ford, has bbk CAI and the FMaster cat back. The car has 72K on it and exhibits every mile and then some. Sad that the car was apparently driven year round. Lots of paint work to bring it back. Front chin spoiler is scraped up, paint missing, lots of rock chips in the paint. Needs the front reshot and at $900 (so they say) a qt on that paint I ain't the least bit interested. I wa hoping to see a car that was enjoyed but very well maintained but not surprised at what I saw to be honest. Car was not owned IMHO by a person that had a clue of what he/she had and/or had so much money he/she did not care. If you are looking for a cobra terminator DD this might be your car, but I would not settle on more than 17-18K out the door. Very rough for mystichrome svt cobra. Heck very rough for any svt cobra. Will keep looking.

Thanks. Just went out and turned over the redfirepearl and must admit, letting her go would be hard to do. There nothing like having the howl of a twin screw accompanied by a mild rough idle cam. Just need to tone down the exhaust note a bit. I can't sneak up on unsuspecting corvette owners as easilly. LOL!!!! Tap the throttle at 60 and they know there's more to it than a CAI and cat back.

Still looking brother, but dead set on a convertible. Appreciate you keeping an eye open. I am eyeballing several right now, one of which I may be able to land a deal on. Have a great weekend. Sure wish it was going to be dry. Would have been a great Sunday to had some wings at QSL.

You'll find one, I've good luck with mine this far. Two thing broke on my car but they were covered under warranty. The driver side window motor failed and the lumbar support on the seat broke. Not sure why on the seat support. I don't think being 220 at the time did it,lol.

I sheared the metal off a idler pulley and went with Billetflow idlers( fixed that problem).

You know the clutch story.

The IRS holds up just fine. I recommend running slicks at the track since it takes a lot of hit during the launch at the track. I have a IRS brace that was one of my first things I had done to my car. I have two axle replacements if I was ever to break one.

I can't say too much about the miles since I'm only at 25,000.

Things I regret doing
Dragon Throttle Body

Things I don't regret doing
Buying the car-> and everything else I've done to it.:bigthumb

Future plans
I'm pretty happy with the power since it got me the time I wanted. As good as these cars look lowered I hate having to to worry about driveways.
New tires maybe -NT05's(street instead of drag radials. I don't want to fear the rain anymore.)

Things I wish for but really don't need-
E85
Whipple
ford Gt pumps

Good luck on the find!

So Joe,

Once I get one of these little monsters I'm thinking CAI, 2.8" pulley, idler set, magnaflow catted xpipe, magna flow exhaust, and tuned. I'm hoping thatthis would get me near the 450 RWHP mark which will be good enough for my liking..........for now. Is that a reasonable gain for those addons? Of course I will reinforce the IRS as well, and improved subframe connectors being its a convertible.

Thanks.

Made 459whp with that minus the x-pipe with a 11.5 a/f across the board tune. You should be able to make 450whp with a good running terminator no problem with those mods.
