ok..i know engines, but injection is not my strong point. that being said, i wonder how i check my injectors and or harnesses to them. long story short, i have a heavily modified supercharged 89 lx that has been asleep for a while. when i say a while, i mean i parked it 8 years ago.of course should have drained the tank or stabilized the fuel at the least but didnt.. at any rate, it ran last year when i moved it in the barn but now it wont. fuel pump locked up( aftermarket in line NOS pump), so i put a walbro in tank in it tonight. figured that would cure it, but didnt. have 40 to 45 psi now again at least, but wont fire. hot hot spark and nearly new ngk plugs. plenty of air too..lol.. that just leaves fuel so im up to the injectors i think. thought they might be plugged or stuck but find it hard to believe all 8 would be stuck. 42# injectors if it matters . also when i turn the key on and the pump cycles for that couple seconds.. the pressure guage reads 45 then dropps to 40 when it cycles off and stays there while cranking even...is that right? any insight would be helpful. im sure i can test the injectors and wiring harness even for power but im not sure how to go about it.
thanks for any help..

id check the power to them first. just unplug one and use a test light while somebody cranks it. it will be intermitten flashing. as there is not always a signal. hopefully mice didnt eat up your harness. good luck.

Drain the gas and put good gas in it.

Like said above, some fresh gas and a fuel filter is worth a shot. Good luck hopefully something easy.

i was thinking that too.. tanks down now so it should be fairly easy to do..lol..going back to work on it in a few hours.. thanks again

4 items needed for combustion.
Air
Fuel
Spark
COMPRESSION

You have two of the four.

Always do a compression check before dropping the tank. Need at least 100 psi cranking with throttle open for the combustion to take place.

yah..forgot to add that mista bone.. got compression.theres maybe 500 miles on the motor since the freshen up was done. so anyway.. checked the red wire on the injector connector(should be hot with the key on)..and its hot.. then ran the ground clamp from my test light to the other wire and the probe end in the red wire while cranking with the coil wire off and it is definitely pulsing. the other thing i decided to do was to disconnect the plug fot the fuelpump back at the tank and crank the motor to see if the fuel pressure on the guage dropped and it did not. so... if i am correct, the injectors cant be opening or the fp would have dropped..right?? im thinking the injectors are normally closed and open when pulsed and must be stuck shut?? seems weird that they would all be stuck , but thats what in thinking. definitely i have fuel to the injectors and the electrical side seems to be working right so i guess i need injectors.. if my thinking is wrong let me know.. thanks for all the input also!

..and to clear up my previous fuel pressure dropping to 40 and staying there while cranking statement...i was wrong. it holds at about 42# cranking and i believe thats right...

have you pulled the plugs to see if they are wet with gas ?

Yes, all 8 injectors can stick. They have a pretty stiff spring pushing down on them, and old gas decomposing to turn into a goo like glue. Put fresh gas in it, and try taking a long 3/8" extension and tap it lightly on an injector while someone is cranking the engine. Move along from injector to injector till you get the car to run, the continue till it smooths out. Had to do this more than once. You can use a piece of hose to put to your ear, the other end on the injector, and while someone cranks, listen for the 'click' of the pintle snapping shut after it opens. If you don't hear that click, then the injectors are just stuck. may never get them to unstick without removing and taking to an injection service.

so these injectors must be rebuildable nx?.. would i be better off to have then refurbished than to replace them money wise?

Not rebuildable, possibly cleanable. They soke them in a solution while hitting it with a sonic wave generator, and it loosens up the goo built up in them, and then they start pulsing the injector open and closed till they can put it in another machine and pulse it quickly and measure the flow to ensure the flow is as it should be. They also have small filters that are replaceable inside the injector inlet. I'd just tap them gently while cranking with fresh fuel. Get the old stuff out by disconnecting the return line and letting it drain into a can as you cycle the key or hotwire the pump through the relay.

I have filled the rail full of wd-40 and tapped on injectors to get them to free up. I almost always fill the rail up with wd-40 or pbplaster any time I get a used motor and put it in complete.
