Alright guys I got my battery relocated to the back . Has 0 ga wire from battery to front. 0gaGrounded from battery to quad shock bracket mounting holes, then from there to the block, then from the block to fender. It has a brand new alternator and battery. It charged fine up front but since I moved it to trunk it won't charge well. Pls help me get to bottom of this.

Go to cincy speed and do what I did for my old 84 capri,, I had problem's like that so I bought a 1 wire alternator from craig at cincy speed. It fixed it and I was not much at all!

I thought 1 wire alrenator was like 200 to 250

Ok,when I installed mine I ran the positive to the fender relay and the ground I ran about a foot away onto one of the small brackets in the trunk. I also have a extremely large cable from the left head to the left inner fender. It charges just fine. Check your connections again and make sure your getting really good continuity. Make sure that ground lug is directly on metal.
What part of town you live in? Nevermind your in harrison,I just remembered. If I get some time this weekend and you still dont have it figured out, give me a call and Ill see if I can come out and lend a hand.

I will try checking my connections again. Is the stock alternator enough if battery in trunk

Yes it is. Go to auto zone, advance, or Oreilly's and pick up two 24" long battery cables that have the eyelet on both ends, in other words not battery terminal on it, just two bolt holes, one on each end. Run each of these from the cast iron on your engine to the frame(I ran bolts through the sway bar mount). Do this on both sides, you can use the front of the head, extra threaded hole in the block, motor mount to block bolt, etc. you get the idea. I believe you have a ground issue to the engine. Hope it helps and moving this to the tech area....

I will try grounding it from block to motor mount bolts to see if that helps, have aluminum heads so can't go from there. Will underdrive crank pulley hurt the charge to where it isn't charging

a smaller then stock alt pulley will turn the generator slower then a stock but should still charge. Like Mike said try regrounding the block to the body. If you have a bad or loose ground somewhere the wire usually gets hot to the touch due to the arching.

Aluminum is conductive. You can connect the ground to the heads.

Not always true. When running under drive pullies, a lot of alternators will not supply enough amps at idle to power the newer electronic/fuel injection motors so it will make it up with battery power.

A 90 amp alt is not capable of supply it's full rated power at idle, more like a fraction of that. Reduce the speed of the alt. and the available current capability is even less.

If your car is drawing 30 amps and you are only producing 25 amps from the alt. it will take the extra current from the battery. You have to raise the speed of the alt so that it can supply more than 30 amps. before you start to charge the battery.

So I can use the head for a grounding point?

I have stock water pump and alt pulley, crank pulley is the only underdrive pulley

was the underdrive pully used when the battery was in front and charging fine??? I have to agree with some of the others, sounds like a grounding issue to me. I ran grounds from alum heads to frane rail, making sure to gring away any paint first. Also I have a ground in the rear also to the frame. Good luck

Also, make sure that the wires and fuseable links are good on the starter solinoid. sounds like you need to start there.

Yes underdrive was used when battery was up front and worked fine

I will pull ground off rear and grind down to bare metal and then do two grounds up front to see if that helps
