I am looking into buying a new short block and have been looking at the mmr 900se 4.75 stroker. I have been trying to find out peoples opinions on it but have not found much. What is your guys input on that short block or mmr as a company general. If not the prefered place to buy from what company do you recommend?

Use a local engine builder. It a whole lot easier to deal with any issues that come up when its local. Mike @ Dayton Performance is putting together my new engine. BES and Steve Barker have built a bunch of them as well.

I would personally get Barker Machine & Fab to do it. He is one of the best in the area. DO NOT BUY A MAIL ORDER ENGINE! You will regret it like I did.

If I were to have a local shop do it what internals would you recommend? I'm looking for a 800 HP rating

depends on your budget. but a Forged Kellog Crank, Eagle Rods and Diamond pistons is a start.

You can pick up a Probe rotating assembly for about $2200-2300 that will take pretty much anything you will throw at it for a street car.

Your budget is $3500 for the entire engine total or just for the shortblock? Like the other guys said definately stay with a local builder, I've seen too many guys have problems with mail order stuff and wish they would have stayed local.

Id go with MMR or MHP Engines everything you get is brand new, new crank, block everything under $3 Grand. If you go local there going to rebuild what you got. Deck the block ,Turn the crank get my drift. And you'll spend over $3000. Learned my lesson.

I just ordered a complete 5.4 short block for my Lightning from MHP Engines another well known 5.4 builder for $3100 shipped was reg $4200.

Call Manny up he use to be MMRs main tech and he has a Great reviews on Lightning Rodder.com

The 3500 is a loose budget on the short block. How do you all feel about the eagle rotating assembly's?

I would go with a forged cobra crank they are pretty cheap and u can make tons of power on one and there are tons of rod choices mod max has a huge selection, definitely go with some h beam rods with arp 2000 bolts and diamond or mahle makes some good reasonable pistons

Don't waste your money on any of the mail order junk.

Go to BES out in St.Leon and get it done right the first time and don't look back. It may be cheaper up front to buy some of the cookie cutter junk engines off the web, but spending money twice is not saving is it.

My buddy had a 4.6 short block built at BES using a cobra crank, eagle h beams, and je pistons and its been beat on since day one and still going strong and tony and his guys aren't any more expensive than anywhere else

LOL!!!! And BES don't do mail order off there web site? Thats pretty funny

So if you lived in Texas you wouldn't buy a engine from BES because they sell junk?

There's alot of good engine builders out there being in other states or local. The bottom line is who's going to give you the best bang for your buck just do your home work before you buy and compare apples to apples. ;)

Ok maybe i should re-phase it some. Don't waste your money on the internet whores that sell in my opinion a poor product. Being local to here BES is the best option there is.

I watched MMR's engine builder assemble two shortblocks without once putting a torque wrench to any bolt or nut. He also checked the gap of all the rings in only in one cylinder, not the cylinders in which they were being installed. Also, there balanced assemblies are not balanced or even checked.
