I have a 2007 F150 crew with a 4.6. I have noticed a few times the tranny kind of feels funny or shifts weird. Do these have a pressure solenoid and tourqe convertor solenoids in the trans like the Chevys? I have had to change those a couple times on several GM vehicles I have had that acted similar.

more time than not it is spark plugs and or coils on those, they had a bunch of spark plug problems. They are known to break the accumulator springs however. The transmission does have a pressure control solenoid but usually the late models ones like that are trouble free, the early ones wore out at 60k. They do still have torque converter problems. The clutch design is trash. A good lining on it makes a ton of difference. You can actually feel lockup with a good clutch in it.

I changed the plugs when I bought it. It definately seems more like a drivetrain issue. Mostly feel it from drive to OD. Like it doesnt know if it should shift or not. It has 98k on it now. Not real bad but anoying.

Probably a bad torque converter clutch but I suggest doing a couple small things to the transmission while it is out. Overdrive band, sonnax overdrive servo pin, sonnax pressure regulator valve and spiral retainer on the intermediate diode.

Pre08's also had a problem with the non magnetic sun shell breaking at the weld. Either replace it with the later model unit or get it welded before it breaks. It has to be tigged with silicon bronze. Oddly the one prone to breaking is the thickest one. Once welded they handle rpms better than any of the others, the thinner ones will wrap around the reverse drum from expansion at about 7200 rpms.

Great. sounds like it could be a real pain in the ass.

I guess that depends on your outlook on it, it's about a $750 job on a 2wd or $850 on a 4wd and takes about a day to do.

well thats a lot of money to someone that usually does everything himself.

Hard to argue that, but better than paying aamco 3k to rebuild the transmission. Doing the job yourself buying the parts at wholeslae you'll have about $250-$300 in it depending on what fluid you use.

Thats better. i can deal with that. I may be in touch when I go to do it to get some info.
