Looking at buying a vehicle from Ky. I've heard you had to get the vehicle checked out before you can get an okay on the title. Can anyone tell me more about this? It's not running, but I believe all the signals and everything work on auxiliary.

What he said. Ive bought quite a few from KY and all they do is check the title to the vin. Cost like $3.50 at a dealership, not sure how much the title offices charge.

Also make sure the VIN on the dash and driver door match. They are required to check that too...although the rarely do it seems.

I find this is the easiest way. 1st get the title notarized in KY from the seller to you, most any bank can do it. Then take the car on a trailer (I assume it doesn't run) and the title to the DMV. For a few bucks they give you a form that verifies the VIN #'s match the title to the car. Then you take the title and vin form next door to the title agency. They collect sales tax and issue a Ohio title in your name.

Dumb question but is this the same for Indiana also? I found out the car is kept there but he has a Ky phone number.

I just brought back a Dodge diesel from Kentucky to Indiana and all they did was verify it was notarized and that the VIN matched. That was it. Pretty simple here in Indiana.
