Bought a Short shifter for my Mustang from Americanmuscle.com and on their website they recommend using Royal Purple Synchromax Manual Transmission Fluid...I've tried looking for it in Autozone and O'reilly auto parts, and neither of them sell it. So my question/ questions are is this the best to use, where can I buy it locally (Eastgate/ Northern KY), or is there another brand that is just as good???

Thanks in advanced!

RP Synchromesh is 1/2 Pennzoil Synchromesh and 1/2 RP fluid. You can get the Penn @ AZ for $7.99 a quart. It is 5w30 semi-synthetic.

I haven't done any Ford trannys but know the above from BITOG and working on Honda trannys.

BTW There is no magical fluid that will fix a grind, only mask it. Fine sawdust works wonders as well :)

Eastgate KOI has some Royal stuff.

Just buy the Penzoil synchromesh fluid. It will make your trans shift a lot smoother. I did it in my 02 GT before I converted to an auto. It made a big difference.

Its not grinding, for the short shifter the directions say to drain the tranny fluid, and they recommend RP, and its like 14-20/qt so I was looking for something cheaper and just as good...

So thanks guys for recommending pennzoil, appreciate it a lot! :bigthumb

I use pennzoil syncromesh from autozone, advance is twice the price.

pennzoil synchromesh will mask a small grind/synchro issue ive done it with a few 3650s and t45s. I swear by the stuff.

You understand that with a short shifter you must learn to shift SLOWER or risk damage to the tranny, esp. the shifter forks if they are cast alum.

Think of the synchros as brake pads. They are only gonna slow the gear so much no matter how much force you use.

Upgrading to carbon coated synchros which will grip the gear cone better will make for faster shifts.

I do now :bigthumb but I usually don't shift hard and fast (just not my style, and like the exhaust sound with slower shifts lol) but not really going for any performance right now with the shifter, like the sleeker look of them, but eventually will be moving on to bigger performance upgrades...how much are those carbon coated synchros, and how big of a job is that?

For a Honda....quit laughing....$225 for the five synchros, for a Mustang I'm not sure, should be about the same or cheaper.

I took apart a T5 WC 4 cylinder tranny, it wasn't fun!
