351w build tips and questions

im gonna be building an 86 351w gonna use stock bottom end im thinking about putting 185 head gonna run a 540 lift cam and performer intake and 600 cfm holley i was hoping to get into or above 400 hp to the crank any suggestion on my setup or maybe another way to reach it on all motor but i will eventually run spray

The 1969 351 windsor 4 barrel motor only made 290hp, and it had flat top pistons and small chamber heads.. you'll be hard pressed to get 400 out of a smog motor that makes only 8:1 compression, without a power adder... You should seriously consider buying a stroker assembly.. I believe Mike at Dayton Performance can steer you in the right direction...

x2 stroker kit, 205s or victor Jrs, Vc jr intake 850 carb and more cam 550-600+ Hp. If you plan of sticking with the 351 smaller heads,carb,cam because you allready have them I would at least freshen the short block with some flat top pistons and decent rods and rod bolts.

408 stroker, TFS 205's, OTS roller cam, Vic Jr. intake and a Pro Systems carb. I've seen this combo go 10's all day with an auto and a good converter with mild to moderate 60' times.

Would definitely need at least 10.5:1 compression with good heads, cam and valve train components.
